Why Obama’s Address to Schoolchildren Is Objectionable

I would venture a guess that it's because Obama is the current President.

So did you hear anything when bush did exactly the same thing? Where you alive during his uh...tenure?

Well that depends on when it was, I don't know offhand. I was in Middle School during the 2000 election, and not interested in politics. However, looking back, as I've maintained in this thread, I'm opposed to the President addressing students based on the fact that it's not their responsibility. So yes, I'd be opposed to Reagan, Bush, or Obama doing it.

Fair enough. Well, do a little research. I have a feeling you will find in HISTORY..this is the first time ever...EVER...when parents decided the president should not speak to their school and them actually requesting the school to either not show it or they will make sure their kids are not there in school. This says so much. It really does.

i know bush had a lot of haters, but that hate wasn't this deep.

during Bush's terms, no state said they wanted to secede from the United States of
America and openly say they hated America.

Do a little research on both these things.....then ask yourself why are they doing it now. What is so different about this president? LOL

The GOP should respond immediately after the speech only instead of having some senator or (ex)governor do it they should just play the clip of Joe Pesci giving opening statements to the jury in My Cousin Vinny.

"Everything that guy just said is bull shit. Thank you."

LOL

They should, just like the nutters on here do!

They are so very scared, aren't they?

If it were a political speech, I would be as concerned as anyone. But I fail to see how the President telling kids to take their education seriously and stay in school, not the first and probably not the last to do so, is in any way objectionable.
The essay is preposterous too, since following it to its inevitable conclusion would reduce the U.S. to an illiterate feudal society with a few rich families and communities acting as the monasteries of the Dark Ages. Set aside education for only those individuals and communities who can afford it, and we're talking reversion to Third World status within two generations max. :cuckoo:

Then the indoctrine will be complete!

I have no doubt this is the first time it's popping up, and I have no doubt it is mostly popping up for partisan reasons. However, that doesn't mean there shouldn't have been opposition to it before, and it doesn't mean there shouldn't be opposition to it now.

No state has said they want to secede from the Union.

I don't think they are scared but I think that this "issue" (if it can even be called that) has done a great job of highlighting the nutters for everyone to see.

With this they have announced, "We will attack anything that comes from this White House"

Spot on! ^^

Well, with parents talking about pulling their kids out of school and such, and spreading lies that students have to write letters and teachers are being intimidated in the teachers lounge....it makes you think what their mind set is.

The death of the GOP. RIP.

Is it true you are a truther and hate Jews?

As to the "death" of the GOP - why are Republicans leading the generic congressional ballot by the highest margin in years?

Ouch!

I just read the speech. Hate or love Obama it's a darn good speech. Nothing political at all. Emphasizes on personal choices and responsibility. Teaching kids that only you can paint your own future.

the GOP should to feel real silly now. But they probably don't. They'll find some way to spin this.

Not so *ouch.*

"...Republicans (should be) to be concerned with their lack of popularity — even among their supporters.

Seventy-four percent of Republican voters believe that Congressional Republicans are out of touch.

The Republicans’ advantage on the generic congressional ballot has emerged almost solely as the result of a precipitous drop in support for the Democrats, from 47 percent on election day to 36 percent now.

Over that same period, support for the Republicans has only increased by 2 percentage points, from 41 percent to 43 percent.

Indeed, while Republican support grew during the fight over the stimulus at the beginning of Obama’s presidency and has been growing again since the start of the health care debate, it actually declined by 4 percentage points during the relatively uneventful period between mid-March and the end of May."

Republican Voters Say GOP Reps in Congress Still Out of Touch

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

Seventy-four percent (74%) of Republican voters say their party’s representatives in Congress have lost touch with GOP voters nationwide over the past several years. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 18% of GOP voters believe their elected officials have done a good job representing the base.

Giving a speech to the kids is not a bad thing. Devising a lesson plan to follow IS! There was yet another major OOOPS moment when this was brought out and they changed it. Why? If there was nothing wrong with it?

excerpt:
In response to complaints, the Obama administration altered one line in a lesson plan proposed for pre-kindergartners through sixth-graders.

The original lesson plan suggested students write down what they can do to help the president. The revised plan suggests students list how they "can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals." No changes were made to the suggested lesson plan for students in the seventh through 12th grades.

---------------------------------------------

All Presidents have given speeches to our children. But NONE have sent a lesson plan to be followed after the speech. The speech alone should be as far as politics go in our schools. The kids are there to learn not to be forced to set their political agendas.

What's really absurd is that anyone thinks school kids are going to pay any attention to what he says.

You are right half of them are not going to listen to the speech half of them barley listen to teachers. They either be talking to friends sleeping or day dreaming.

But all school should have option if the kids want to see it. I think this is just silly and idoitc for the nutwings calling anything obama does is solicast you notice how half of parents where upset without even know what was in the speech from the first time?

If i had kids i let them choice. You got to here and listen to your kids or you know your not going to a good parent.

You are going to find there will be a lot of things that never happened before happening now (for some strange reason).

Do you need a link to the nuts in Texas who want to seceed? I am at work and will get it for you later tonight if needed. These are elected people in front of constiuants screaming they want out of the United states of America. Seriously.

This is what it is coming down too. The school thing proves so much. No matter what this White house says, the republicans will oppose it.

The Birthers, the people calling him a socialist, the ones against this health care reform, the ones saying Afghan is his vietnam after 7 months, even though after 7 years in Iraq were fine. We can spend more money on war than any other country combined but cant have health care for everyone. etc etc. prove the opposition is just extreme. Opposition is a good thing, but to say the President cant speak to children says everything.

Asking the children to write the president and tell him how he can do a better job is a horrible thing? Seriously. I wish he kept it in there and make the kids think. How is this partisan? He was going to ask them THEIR opinions on how he could do a better job. Damn that socialist!

Here is a terrible thing...Ronnie telling his group of kids about tax cuts for the rich. That was a partisan, political thing.

Of course...and it's already happening. Not well, mind you, but it's already happening.

Come down to it, nothing popularizes anything for children more than a ban by parents and school authority. I see this speech being downloaded and bootlegged between children and teenagers (who might not have paid attention to it at all in school) and passed along and listened to like forbidden fruit of all generations. The nutroots really gave the administration a plug for the 2012 elections (many of the teens will be voting by then). They never learn, bless their shrunken hearts. :clap2:

Question: How can terrified White people tell that a speech is objectionable before they know its content?

Answer: A black man can be scheduled to give it.
