Why Obama’s Address to Schoolchildren Is Objectionable

I dont even have to read it to know this is the biggest crock of bullshit EVER! did anyone bitch like this when Bush read to school kids on 9/11...I THINK NOT! WOW! he gives a well thought out and well written speech on staying in school and taking personal responsability for ones actions and you all act like the biggest sin in the world was committed. The lesson plans that went along were OPTIONAL and many schools chose NOT to use them...so fuckin what! OH MY GOD MY KID IS BEING INDOCTRINATED WITH SOCIALIST PROPAGANDA!!! LOL WOW you people are truly sad sacks:cuckoo:

Well maybe you should have read it because your straw-men arguments don't apply to this article.

I read his speech yesterday, did not get to see it today cause of work and found absolutely NOTHING wrong with it, I even read from some conservatives on other boards I go on that after reading it they would be proud to have their kids hear it...a bunch of fuss over nothing at all in my eyes.

That's all well and good, but this article wasn't worried about "socialist propaganda" and it didn't just bring up questions about Obama addressing students. The article questions whether it's the President's job to address students, and the answer is no regardless of political party.

Nobody said it was the job of the President, however, I do feel that a good leader would talk to, as well as inspire, the people that they lead, regardless of age.

Nope. Nothing wrong with the President's speech.

Again the problem never was the speech....

Exactly.

The radical rightists on this board are simply reaching for anything to bitch about.

That speech was completely innocuous.

Hell, they started bitching about it before any of them even had the content of it.

That is correct according to our first Constitution adopted on September 17, 1787. But the same was replaced by the Welfare/Warfare State Constitution of 1935.

The Latter allows the President to do anything he wants in order to aggrandize the federal government .

.

I just read the speech. Hate or love Obama it's a darn good speech. Nothing political at all. Emphasizes on personal choices and responsibility. Teaching kids that only you can paint your own future.

the GOP should to feel real silly now. But they probably don't. They'll find some way to spin this.

I watched the speech and yes it was good. Stay in school, get an education, blah, blah, blah.

I don't have a problem with the speech . . . I have a problem with the speech giver.

And so did a lot of parents. A lot. Of course this has never happened before, EVER! No president has ever been banned from the children before...EVER. What is so different about this one?

Did anyone object when Reagan preached to children about tax cuts to the rich? This entire child ban thing (lol) puts people like you in a crazy little small box.

It proves, no matter what Obama says or does, you will automatically be against it without even knowing what he is bringing to the plate.

It takes away from you credibility considering we know you (righty wingers) will say no no no, no matter what.

Like I said, that bitch Palin and her husband are part of a separatist movement for Alaska.

Why the fuck aren't you neo-con pricks talking about her?

Honestly, I equate Palin and her husband being with that group of extremist, America hating people to Obama is he was involved with the black muslims from the 70's.

Imagine if Obama was involved with the black muslims and ask yourself why the right wont even mention Palin and her husband being involved in a group that hates America. Palin should just move to Texas and help them secede.

The far right extremists have taken over the Republican party. They are not a majority in any way, but they scream loud enough and they have some of the big names to get heard.

This was another much ado about nothing that was catapulted by them into actually appearing to be a real issue.

To the parents who kept their kids home, you must be some losers if a one hour speech by the president of the United will wipe out all your training and morally ruin you little goobers.:eusa_whistle:

All this crap by the right right now is smoke and mirrors to deflect from the fact that they have no program except more tax cuts for the rich. They have been fighting any kind of universal health care for all Americans since Harry Truman pushed for it.

The current RNC is nothing but a paid shill for big business. In this case the Health Insurance Giants who are already "rationing care" and and putting one of their buerucrats in the examining room with you and your doctor. Over 30% of claims were turned down by United in California. That is rationing, buttwad righties.

Death panels, euthanasia, dead grammys, Pat Buchanan saying that they would come to your house to counsel you on your death options.

They have taken their moral compass and shoved it up their butts and have become morally adrift.

I hope and pray that tonight Obama basically tell them tuff, you won't cooperate, you lost the election, we will get a meaningful healthcare program without you since you won't work with US.

When I first saw the lesson plans I knew they were completely generic plans that could have been applied to almost any speaker.
Now that we have heard the speech I am positive that the plans were written before the speech. '
Most teachers probably never even saw the plans. It was just an email sent out with the invitation to listen that most principals probably would have discared if the "boycotters" hadn't been screaming about the lesson plans

When Bush the elder gave a speech to school children the democrats had a conniption fit.

When President George H.W. Bush delivered a similar speech on October 1, 1991, from Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington DC, the controversy was just beginning. Democrats, then the majority party in Congress, not only denounced Bush's speech -- they also ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate its production and later summoned top Bush administration officials to Capitol Hill for an extensive hearing on the issue.

House Democrats criticized President Bush yesterday for using Education Department funds to produce and broadcast a speech that he made Tuesday at a Northwest Washington junior high school.

The Democratic critics accused Bush of turning government money for education to his own political use, namely, an ongoing effort to inoculate himself against their charges of inattention to domestic issues. The speech at Alice Deal Junior High School, broadcast live on radio and television, urged students to study hard, avoid drugs and turn in troublemakers.

“The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students,” House Majority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) said. “And the president should be doing more about education than saying, ‘Lights, camera, action.’ ”

Two House committees demanded that the department explain the use of its funds for the speech, an explanation that Deputy Secretary David T. Kearns provided late in the day in a letter to Rep. William D. Ford (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee. Education Secretary Lamar Alexander was out of town. [...]Rep. Patricia Schroeder (D-Colo.), chairwoman of the Select Committee on Children, Youth and Families, said it was outrageous for the White House to “start using precious dollars for campaigns” when “we are struggling for every silly dime we can get” for education programs.

Rep. Martin Frost (D-Tex.) said that if Bush feels obliged to use government funds to hire outside consultants “to make him look good,” then he should fire some of the public relations experts on the White House payroll. “Then the president might be more sympathetic to unemployment benefits,” Frost said, referring to Bush’s threat to veto legislation to extend benefits.

Real Obama quotes:

by Ann “Babe” Huggett

When was the last time that school children were exposed to any Presidents sayings on such a massive and continuous scale? So, here are some quotations that I bet no socialist leaning teacher in his or her right mind would put up but said quotes would be a far better education about Obama than the slobbering hero-worship ones that will be picked for our soon emerging Obama Youth cadres:

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join me as we try to change it."

"What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith and youre absolutely right that is not somethinguhI mean my Christian faith..."

"I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go."

"I ceased to advertise my mothers race at the age of twelve or thirteen, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."

"I found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mothers race."

"That hate hadn't gone away"...."white people some cruel, some ignorant, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives."

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."

"There were enough of us on campus to constitute a tribe, and when it came to hanging out, many of us chose to function like a tribe, staying close together, traveling in packs. . . It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names"

"Ok, look, you know, when I was a kid, I inhaled frequently. That was the point."
"When an opponent declares, "I will not come over to your side," I calmly say, "Your child belongs to us already... What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community."

Oh, wait...my bad...That last quote was from a November 1933 speech by Adolf Hitler but it might just explain the mad rush by the Obama Administration to pass health care reform which seems dedicated to shortening the lives of older, wiser, better educated, politically savvier and non-socialist American citizens

I never objected to the speech but I do object to the speech giver. I wouldn't let my kids listen to it or participate in any government provided actives associated with it. If I had, would my kids have come home preaching 'Obama, Obama he's our man. If he can't do it, no one can'? Hell no. I didn't allow my kids to participate because I adamantly disagree with Obama's policies and with the direction he is taking this country. It saddens me that this is the only time I've ever felt this way. Geesh, as much as I didn't care for the Clintons I never would have kept my kids from listening to Bill give a back to school speech. It's a sad day for this country when so many parents disagree so strongly with the president on principle that they won't even let their kids listen to him speak.

Forget about what he said in the speech - it is not the substance of the speech that concerns me - the speech was designed to ingratiate the president with the masses : the UNWRITTEN message was : he is such a nice guy that he can not be wrong about "healthcare reform".

Capisce?

Not only is the quote false - (brought to you by that piece of shit essay by 'the "babe") -it was originally to be used as a 'all-purpose stump speech' for McCain.

lol. How funny is that??

That "teachable moment' belongs to Molly's failedCannon.

The pile of junk linked by Jen is just that - and flys off all Godwin batshit at the end. As usual, another conservative comparing Obama to Hitler.

(I thought they said they didn't do that?)

The lesson plan that asked the kids to write a letter to Obama and tell him how he could do better. How is this a bad thing?

You know, just like what Bush 1 did during one of his speeches to the kids.

Head out of the butt indeed sir.

I heard on the radio yesterday one guy who was opposed to Obama's speech before he got it..then he got it and said the reason he was opposing it now was because it was too long for him to speak to kids like that.

No matter what, if Obama has anything to do with it...its no no no...we get it.

You're as stupid as your avatar suggests if you believe that simply asking kids to write a letter explaining how Obama could do better was all that was intended. Fact is the lessons included questions like "How can we help the president?". It's one thing for a president to encourage all kids to work hard and stay in school, it's another thing entirely, however, to have the U.S. Department of Education send detailed instructions to public schools nationwide on how to glorify the president and the presidency, and push them to drive social change. And yes your head is so far up Obama's ass that if you caught him fucking a dog, you'd say he was just being kind to animals.
