Can liberals explain why a $15 federal minimum wage os a food thing?

Why not $30? Why not $60?

It’s not enough but it’s a good start. It will take time for the numbers to shake out but everywhere it’s been done, unemployment went DOWN not up.

The CBO only seems skewed to assess the costs, and ignores the increased demand for goods and services when people have disposable income and aren’t living paycheck to paycheck.

That’s what built the American Middle Class and what lifted millions out of poverty during the pre-Reagan era.

Americans pay the cheapest grocery prices in the first world, largely because your food is harvested and processed by illegal labour paid less than minimum wage. Because of the lack of illegals crossing the border due to covid, prices are going up.

You either have unchecked illegal immigration and cheap food, or you start paying American wages to American farm workers to grow and process your food.

You can’t have cheap food without massive numbers of illegal immigrants being paid less than legal wages, to produce it.

No you don’t. You just need to arrest anyone who employs an illegal. When employers stop hiring them, they leave.

Republicans make a big show of rounding them up and deporting them. Waste of money as long as Koch Industries and Tyson Farms have the welcome mat out for them.

$10,000 fine for every illegal caught on the place. ICE took close to 700 illegals out of two chicken processing plants owned by these two companies. $7,000,000 fines on a first offense would make hiring illegals a bad business decision.

Obama and Clinton both went after employers and the numbers of illegal immigrants fell through both of their terms.

W stopped all enforcement against employers and the numbers exploded. The same thing happened when Trump ended Obama’s enforcement programs.

Republicans love having big raids and deporting people but these enforcement programs do nothing to stop illegal immigration. Plus they’re expensive and there’s no return on your investment.

Employer enforcement involves accountant pouring over employee records and finding discrepancies. There’s no flashy ICE raid for the evening news. But when you find employers $10,000 per employee, the guilty pay their fines and you recover your enforcement costs.

Cheaper, and effective is better than expensive and fails to deter illegal immigration.
