The conservatives in the US are in the same position as the communists in the 30s, and for the same reason: Their revolutions failed spectacularly but they refuse to admit what went wrong.

Cutting spending and bringing the budget into line are commendable goals, but you are attempting to do it by shutting down government and defaulting the debt, which will indeed make all Americans miserable.

NOT true. 15% of the govt was shut down for a short time---no one really noticed, unless you wanted to visit a national monument.

NO ONE ever suggested defaulting on the debt, paying the interest on the debt always comes first, and there was and is plenty of govt revenue to service the debt.

Everybody paid attention to Tea Party government wrecking and the 24 billion in damages it caused. Refusing to allow the debt to be raised would have resulted in a default on agreement of money already for government operations.

Obama shut down 15% of the govt, if that cost 24B then thats on him. But I don't believe that cutting spending for a few weeks "cost" us 24 B.

Its not a default when the budget for something like a new fighter plane is cut or delayed.
