Unfortunately it both good politics AND mental illness.

All politicians lie or they don't get elected. The people (in general) are self-centered, misinformed and just unable to accept reality.

Most politicians try to lie as little as possible and try to be somewhat subtle when they do. They USUALLY do not like lying.

Trump has taken this to a whole new level - far beyond any American politician before him.

He's recognized that the percentage of delusional Americans is huge. He tells them whatever they want to hear and what they want to believe with no regard for truth whatsoever.

At the bottom of this is that Americans are a nation where about half are totally spoiled brats. They have wealth that insulates them from reality. They believe that living in a fantasy world and ignoring reality is safe for them. They rejoice in knowing that other people will suffer from their delusionalism, but they won't.

It's a form of mental illness.
