During the Roman Empire about 2000 years ago, the Romans decided to call Israel by the Latin word "palestine" in retribution for the second Jewish Revolt against Roman occupation of Israel and pagan religious persecution of Jews. The Emperor Hadrian chose to rename Israel "palestine" as an added insult for the Jewish uprising based on the "Philistines" who were ancient enemies of the Israelites. The Philistines were of Greek origin, known as the Sea Peoples having come from the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.
The objective of the Romans was to erase 1000 years of Jewish nationhood in Israel as they erased Carthage after its loss to the Romans in the Punic War.
The word Philistines comes from the Hebrew word "Peleshet" found many times in the Hebew Bible meaning "invader" The Bible translates Peleshet as Philistia, land of the Philistines [Not palestine]
Thus, ultimately, "palestine" has Hebrew roots: Peleshet > Philistia > Palestine. Which begs the question why so-called palestinians identify with a Hebrew-based identity rather than a "palestinian" identity. In fact, since there is no letter p in arabic, so-called palestinians, who are arabs, cannot even write their identity in their own native arabic language.
The so-called palestinians wouldn't be a completely invented "people" Noooooooooooooooooo.
