Why do Americans still call Native Americans as Indians and not American?

Indians arent American. They didnt build this nation. They live on their own land with their own tribal laws and they dont pay taxes. They contribute basically nothing to this nation, therefore they arent Americans. Did i mention how extremely xenophobic they are too? They dont like us and they want nothing to do with us. I cant think of a more un-American group in this nation.

'They' helped us win WWII, you dope.
Everyone helped in that war. What percentage of the Indian population helped? Their participation was extremely low. Besides, if you read my post, it clearly said "they BASICALLY contributed nothing", meaning their part was extremely small, in fact you might say it was ALMOST non-existant.

The Native American people are lovely people. Many of them are born again Christians like the Crow nation. What are satanists contributing to in this country besides the rate of kidnapping, unsolved murders and lawlessness in the land of America? Clean up your own life, find an avatar that doesn't glorify the devil and stop calling yourself a god. You are a human being not a god. And Lucifer is a defeated foe. He's under my feet tonight. Get saved and he'll be under yours too!
There is no such thing as God.... or Satan. Get a grip man. Stop reading that book. Its clouding your judgement.

My grip is firm and I'm anchored on the rock of ages. Meanwhile back at the ranch your house is built on sinking sand and when the big storm comes you'll be swept away! You need to listen to me and get a bible and start reading it. You need to be saved.
Yuck! You people sure love to use fear as a tool. I find your behavior disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself.

What's the difference? They didn't call themselves "Americans" before we got here. That's a name we fucking made up based on one of our dead white guys.
I mean, if we wanted to be respectful, we'd distinguish by tribes. Otherwise, I don't think it matters which wrong name we give them.

A made up name based on one of your dead white guys? Who the hell told you that? If it was a History teacher they should get canned immediately.

:lmao:

Here's a fun fact. The German cartographer and two associates who named the Americas didn't know Columbus was the one who discovered America first.

They named the New World after a navigator called Americus Vespucci. They'd read his writings and gave him the headliner status.

And that's why we're not named Columbus or Columba.

Interesting link.

Why America was Named America

I call them "American Indians" in order to distinguish between them and inhabitants of India. I will continue to call them "American Indians," just as I will continue to call Negroes "Negroes" and Orientals "Orientals."

Using terms like "Native Americans" "African Americans" and "Asians" even "East Asians" seems like concessions to political correctness.

Well as granny told me the proper term for us us Red Skin. Then again I'm descended from holdouts that the Army and Alabama militia bypassed out of shear terror. We kind of like getting into your face.

Do you have the faintest idea of why they were called Red Skins?

High rates of albinism. red skin was the 17th century term for sunburned. And no I am not registered with any of the three reservations since I am not Eastern Band, Old Settler or or OK Band nor of the 12 federally unrecognized bands. Horseshoe Bend, the battle my ancestors won and that kept unwanted whites out of our lands, is something everyone else would like to forget.

Well, let's set the record straight.

Many Indian tribes learned to use herbal extracts to protect them from the strong sun and stop sunburn. Vermilion was also a color they painted themselves for ritual purposes. It was also used to denote the color of a corpse after scalping.

The first use of the word redskin was in French and referred to the term "rouge".

Call me AmerInd, please.

My relatives aren't involved with casinos or cattle.

But I support the AmerInd taking the land back one slot machine pull or steak at a time.

Regards from Rosie

I love how so many tribes are getting even through their casinos. I would love to see every tribe in the USA and Canada operating at least one.

Speaking about the real racism in America...
I know it's not the best way to put it, but I as an Indian find it very..odd?!.. and if I may say a bit offended. India is a different country and a very old surviving civilization. I think everyone in USA should be called americans, and if you guys still need a race differentiation, Native americans should be called Americans, Caucasians as European Americans, and Blacks as African Americans.
Am I mistaken again?

American is a nationality.

Indian is an ethnic or racial term.

Why do I call them Indians?

Because I am tired of pc games.

This offends you? That is your issue. Please do not bother me with it.

Okay, for argument's sake, just what should you call the people who lived on this continent before the arrival of Europeans?

America was European

The name almost every group of people living here gave themselves meant no more than The People.

So, why not call them The First People?

How do you know if the people of ancient India did not intermingle and mix with the Asians and then crossed into ancient America?

Great Surprise Native Americans Have West Eurasian Origins
Nearly one-third of Native American genes come from west Eurasian people linked to the Middle East and Europe, rather than entirely from East Asians as previously thought, according to a newly sequenced genome.

DNA is saying that we are all mutts, who came from one original man and woman. :)

There is a huge cline in North America as is visible in your chart and it ain't the only one. For example "1421" deals with pre-Columbian contact with the Americas in the 1400s and there is a huge number of them. There is a huge difference in genetic markers north to south and east to west and linguistic ones such as the native name for Cherokee is also the native name of Cilicia in southern Turkey so I don't use it. No, my ancestors are not the lost tribes of Israel no matter how many Punic artifacts the Mormons dig up in our old stomping grounds. Among other things with Elvis, Churchill and Sequoya we don't need to make claims to any other population and shouldn't.
