I'd say this is admirable as it gets. Nothing to criticize here.

Same here. Most of our graduates went on. 1. To college ( plus most of them had their GEDs out of the way free or at reduced cost through our generous Metropolitan Community College System ) 2. Vocational schools , also offered by the MCC. They work with area businesses , so most jobs are already secured. Or 3. The military.

Yep. We just gave our teachers over a 7 percent raise. The only problem is once a good teacher hits 55 they retire. I'm happy for them but it's a loss for the district. Then again it's all the fault of the district for not doing more monetarily to try and keep them.

The education system in America is designed to make obedient workers (global citizens, whatever), not educate. I've been digging into the roots of how this system got so fked up and it is so broken that it seems impossible to unwind. Home schooling is the only answer, but of course very few families can make it on one income so there is a built-in dependency on the state for education. Smart kids with smart aware parents will survive the public school system, the rest are well and truly screwed.
