You know, part of the problem was caused by Trump himself. Seems that back in 2018, he got rid of the entire pandemic response chain of command and hasn't replaced them yet.

If this does start to spread, how is the government going to respond? They don't have any infrastructure currently in place to deal with it. And, if it starts spreading like it is in Italy and other places, expect wholesale panic and people walling their communities off from infected people.

In 2018, the Trump administration fired the government’s entire pandemic response chain of command, including the White House management infrastructure. In numerous phone calls and emails with key agencies across the U.S. government, the only consistent response I encountered was distressed confusion. If the United States still has a clear chain of command for pandemic response, the White House urgently needs to clarify what it is—not just for the public but for the government itself, which largely finds itself in the dark.


To tell you the truth, finding out the government doesn't have any way of dealing with this makes it even scarier.
