Inspector general finds it was altered to imply it was peer reviewed

White House altered report justifying drilling ban - U.S. news - Environment - msnbc.com

WASHINGTON — An inspector general says the White House edited a report about the administration's moratorium on offshore oil drilling to make it appear that scientists and experts supported the idea of a six-month ban on new drilling.

The Interior Department's inspector general says the changes resulted "in the implication that the moratorium recommendation had been peer reviewed." But it hadn't been.

Still, the report said the administration did not violate federal rules because it had offered a formal apology and already publicly clarified the nature of the expert review.

Anyone here recall big 0 coming out to apologise?

So if I rob a bank, and apologise and put the money back I haven't broken any "rules" or laws?

I say any politician who breaks "rules" get thrown out of office. Period.

Not surprising. This Administration is well known for cooking the books. Just like their Unemployment Rate magically staying at 9.6% all these months. The real Unemployment Numbers are obviously much much higher. Altering these reports shouldn't surprise anyone. It's all just one big Hopey Changey scam at this point. :(

What shocked me was that it was on msn. :eusa_drool:

Think maybe they are jumping ship?

“Both versions, however, revised and re-ordered the executive summary, placing the peer review language immediately following the moratorium recommendation causing the distinction between the secretary’s moratorium recommendation – which had not been peer-reviewed – and the recommendations contained in the 30-Day Report – which had been peer-reviewed – to become effectively lost.”

Hmmm, isn't that like mentioning Saddam Hussein and the alleged threat he posed in the same sentance as al Queda, Osama bin Laden, and 9-11?

So what you are saying is that obama is no better than Bush.

The scientists were really pissed about this. Needless to say, so were Governor Jindal and Senator Vitter.

At least eight of the 15 experts asked to review the Interior Department's work expressed concern about the change made by the White House, saying that it differed in important ways from the draft they had signed off on. But the experts also questioned the basis for the drilling ban.

"We believe the report does not justify the moratorium as written and that the moratorium as changed will not contribute measurably to increased safety and will have immediate and long-term economic effects," the scientists wrote in a fax sent to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and Louisiana Sens. Mary Landrieu and David Vitter, earlier this year.

"The secretary should be free to recommend whatever he thinks is correct, but he should not be free to use our names to justify his political decisions." :clap2:

Busted!!!!!
