I graduate in December, and I have nine months to get away from home and do something fun (sure, because accounting is fun!) before I have to come back for graduate school. I've decided I'm going to find an internship, so now that begs the question: where?

Boston looks like a nice place. I also like the sound of the Raleigh-Durham area of NC. There's always D.C. or the surrounding areas.

Any suggestions on where would be a nice place to live for 9 months?

those are your choices? boston, raleigh/durham or dc? think bigger? how about international accounting....i mean hell do they do number different in other countries...at least think ...what would i like to do in the next 9 months...course i guess you have to think where are there jobs...new orleans would be nice...hot, humid but nice...try the gulf port area..very nice...casinos...women...perhaps houston or austin texas...what about canada?

I've lived in both Raleigh and Boston. What do you want to know?

i dont think dive con is real objective here...i doubt jsanders is a diver...but key west is a party zone...no doubt...even for straight men....the outer banks of nc are great too...of the 3 areas you mentioned...raleigh is the best but i would not move into durham...i would look for something in the chapel hill area....may be too many out of work cpas from bank of america laying off people in charlotte....good luck

when you consider i have lived in Maine, Texas, Missouri, and Florida
how can you say i'm NOT being objective

if he was graduating in March, then maybe Boston, its nice in the spring and summer
but it cold as hell, MI in the winter ;)

i was thinking more Miami
or at worst Tampa
well, Tampa on the west coast of FL
wouldnht go any further south on the west side, the pay scales are just too low from all the retired folk

but the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area should have a lot of accounting positions

Boston is a blast. a city of 300,000 residents that hosts a half million college students.

Rents are dear, though.

Don't bring a car. Parking is a nightmare.

Miami is fun. But a single guy should go spent time in NYC.

Miami is nothing but gay guys and women with blonde hair, blonde teeth, and big tits. Fun as a vacation, but I could never live there. Keys would be great for 9 months though.

well, maybe he likes women with blonde hair, blonde teeth and big tits. lol... Personally, I'd be bored in the keys after a week.

My favorite South Beach story:

we were down in south beach when my son was about 5 and sitting on his dad's shoulders and saw his first nubile 16 year old in a dental floss bikini. this is the conversation they had:

son: daddy, her butt is sticking out.
hubby: yes, son.
son: and daddy --- she has big boobies.
hubby: yes son.
son: daddy?
hubby: yes?
son: can we move here?

Arthur Andersen in Chicago.

Arthur Andersen in Chicago.

Hear, hear. I freaking love Chicago. I'd also say that DC would be a great place for a young guy to spend 9 months. Lots of single girls, too. You wouldn't need a car.

Miami, though: TERRIBLE traffic. Big crime problems. Huge sections of the city are ugly as hell. VERY expensive to live in a nice area. Great for vacation, but you don't want to live there.

you don't know what you are talking about

First of all,
South Beach doesn't represent Miami...thats a toruist area...so all the Blondes you were seeing were probably from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

As for Jsanders question

I would suggest working for any of the big 4, cause it will look th ebest on your resume.

Pricewaterhousecoopers
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu
Ernst & Young
KPMG

Not one mention of the left coast... that's good! :D

Florida is fun. Lived in Tampa for a few years, loved it. Toured the state. Lots to do and see. Cape Canaveral, Fort Desoto, Daytona, The Keys, the Everglades, and the list goes on, and if you like the beach and/or fishing, it's a paradise. Just watch out for king sized roaches and spiders.

Terrible traffic if you don't know your way and just stay on 95 all the time...there are ways around traffic.

Crime is bad here...yet, live in a good area and you don't deal with it.

Not that expesnive to live ina nice area...I live in Aventura, which is a VERY good area and because of the bubble that popped, homes are very inexpensive.

For Sanders, his best bet would be a Condo which are dirt cheap...He can get a condo in Aventura on the circle, a 1 bedroom for 170,000 or rent one for a grand a month

Well, it was kind of a joke, but I do like Chicago. I'd have to live downtown, though, close to work.
