You think it might be a better idea to just start arming the regular citizens so they can defend themselves, or is that a bad idea?

Works in my part of Texas... yep, there is still violence, but damn it.... I am defending myself.

Taking away guns from regular citizens doesn't convince criminals to give up their arms.

Did they have gun violence in the west when most people wore guns? Yes, but it was understood that you were putting your own life on the line every time you pulled gun. And if you acted in self defense you walked.

If everyone had guns, crime still would occur. Whether the murder rate would increase is open to speculation since some criminals would shoot first if they suspected the victim was armed.
