The deer debate continues in Northwest Austin. The first of two meetings will be held Thursday evening determine what to do with an overpopulation. Last year the City of Austin hired a consulting firm to draw up a census count of the deer herd in Northwest Hills. The firm counted 400 deer; about 300 too many.

Since the count, the Northwest Hills Community has been struggling with ways to handle the overpopulation. Experts suggest two options including traping the deer then killing them, or hire sharp shooters to kill the deer in the community.

Since the City of Austin will likely foot the bill, they're the weighing the cost of each option along with public opinion.

Experts suggest it would cost between $175-$300 per deer to trap, transport and process the deer. Sharp shooters would charge about $250 per deer.

The first of two community meetings begin Thursday night to get input.

"The trapping it's more terrifying and painful for them," said one resident, "Sharpshooting is a little big more risky in a neighborhood where there are children. So, I don't have an swer."

Northwest Hills residents say the deer are eating too much plantation, are causing car accidents and can be aggressive.

There will be a second community meeting is schedule February 175h
