I don't really follow any one religion. I guess I would best be described as non-denominational with my beliefs stemming from basic Christian beliefs.

I think simply following the Ten Commandments would be good. In a nutshell:

Believe in God.
Don't try to create your own god or follow one that somebody creates.
Don't use the name of God in a bad way.
One day a week belongs to God, so let God have it.
Be nice to your parents.
Don't murder anybody.
Don't screw around on your spouse, or with someone else's spouse.
Don't take what isn't yours.
Don't lie about people.
Leave other people's stuff alone.

for me the utilities of religion are :

it gives hope for human kind, when it's desesperate.

it gives a way of life, with a certain behavior, like rules for a good and smart like in society - not kill, love the others......... - and hygien rules too - like in the muslim and jewish religions : not eat pork because pigs have lot of diseases.... -

and the Church, as organization, can be agood administration (ex : during the early middle age, in the VIII-IX, Church was the only real organized institution....and the church laws were useful )

I was raised protestant but became an atheist at about 10 and have stayed there.
