What would Liberals eat?

"....the overbearing regulations have thus far convinced a record number of students to bring their lunches from home. Lunchrooms across the country are experiencing significant revenue loss, and increasing waste due to a requirement that all students take a fruit or vegetable, whether they eat it or not."

"District Food Services Director Brenda Braulick “says last year, between the middle and high schools, (the a la carte line) brought in $2,200 a day. So far this year, it’s been about $1,400 a day, though she says the number is increasing.”

"The sales loss is troubling, she said, because the new whole-grain rich foods are more expensive to begin with."

and this is interesting:

"Snacks are now limited to 200 calories, while full lunches cannot exceed 850."

So...if American kids are starving, thus causing the need for this huge monster of a federal lunch program...how is it that they're actually bringing their lunches to school now? That's not something starving kids do.

But for the kids who really ARE starving..well, they're lucky because their caloric count has been reduced! No fat starving kids in the US, no sirree.

Not for long, anyway.

They're reduce foodstamp allotments next, all the while saying "Starving children eat too much!"

If the Federal government didn't provide them 24/7/365 minute by minute instructions, what would Liberals eat? House plants? Dirt? Paint chips? paper clips? I mean are they really that helpless that they need Michelle Obama to tell them EVERYTHING?

"The federal snack rules take effect this year for school districts across the country that participate in the federal free and reduced lunch program. They restrict snack foods sold at schools to those with at least 50 percent whole grain, with low sugar, fat and sodium content. Each snack must also come in under 200 calories, according to the news site.

That means a lot of popular snacks are now off the table, including donuts, brownies, potato chips, full flavor pop, candy bars, and most other foods teenagers prefer. Even salt shakers and packets are now illegal."

amazes me that anybody has a problem with public schools feeding kids healthier foods. But there it is.
I amazes me that libs continue to miss the point,.
We dont need Washington bureaurcrats telling us what to eat. We just dont. Making some snacks illegal is simply more nanny state nonsense.
In other words, ketchup is a vegetable.

In other words, you have no idea how to address the point made in Rabbi's post.
Washington nanny state is not telling us what to eat. Let me restate that for clarity. WASHINGTON NANNY STATE IS NOT TELLING US WHAT TO EAT.

They are, in fact, establishing standards for school menus so, at least once per day, children are not being fed junk food. Unscrupulous local school officials are no longer permitted to offer up the cheapest, lousiest quality food as a cost savings measure. High fat, high salt foods are not acceptable for student's lunches. Is that so egergious to Conservatives? What if we took away other standards in schools? Should we use sub-standard building materials? Should we repeal all standards for school bus safety too because of the insidious "Nanny State"?

It's more than the bottom line. It's a matter of responsibility to the children.

Have you tried this stuff?

SustaBowl-front2-150x150.jpg

It's spoonable, like sugar, doesn't cake, and is quite sweet. This is not what I use in my coffee (I use agave syrup) but it gets rave reviews for baking. Haven't baked with it myself yet but it doesn't have the bitter aftertaste of stevia.

For creamer or milk/cream ingredients I use soy (or sometimes almond or flax milk) and it works just fine.

I have a strong suspicion that you're using distilled agave in your coffee - based on the quality of your posts....

Of course vending machines never belonged in our schools in the first place but here's the problem.

Liberals and conservatives take turns kicking our posteriors. Nixonacare, Romneycare, Obamacare, it's all the same.

The government has been telling us what to eat for at least a hundred years. That's when forced pasteurization of milk and rickets came in. They are the last person to listen to for nutrition advice.

The new mutant wheat is garbage so whole grain is nonsense. There is little or no evidence that salt increases blood pressure and sea salt is the bomb. The government is the one who allows them to remove all the vital trace minerals and put aluminum in table salt.

But here's the kicker. Diet soda is toxic and causes weight gain even more than high fructose corn syrup. Why can't we get soda with old fashion sugar any more?

So you'll fight the government for a candy bar but not for fresh milk?

Why do vending machines not belong?

No such thing as Nixoncare - never was.

Rickets came about from pasteurized milk? :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

Ah, another anti-science lefty...

If you don't like short stem wheat, created in the 30's through cross breading - which has been done since at LEAST ancient Egypt, then you can get Einkorn wheat at ANY farmers market - Sprouts, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc.

But here's the kicker. Diet soda is toxic and causes weight gain even more than high fructose corn syrup.
Why can't we get soda with old fashion sugar any more?

Toxic is bullshit, though it does cause weight gain by stimulating sugar cravings.

“A rosy, plump, lusty child was never seen where pasteurized milk had been its only food for a prolonged period," said Dr. Joseph E. Winters. For 30 years Dr. Winters has been a specialist in the treatment of children. He is a prominent member of the American Pediatric society, is consulting physician at the Demilt dispensary and visiting physician to the Willard Parker and Riverside hospitals.

“Consumption of pasteurized dairy products, particularly at age 20 years, was associated with an increased risk of hip fracture in old age. (“Case-Control Study of Risk Factors for Hip Fractures in the Elderly”. American Journal of Epidemiology. Vol. 139, No. 5, 1994).

And the 12 year long Harvard Nurses’ Health Study found that those who consumed the most calcium from pasteurized dairy foods broke more bones than those who rarely drank pasteurized milk. This is a broad study based on 77,761 women aged 34 through 59 years of age.

So you agree “Liberals and conservatives take turns kicking our posteriors. Romneycare, Obamacare, it's all the same.”

Science comes from the left.

Today's wheat is a product of cross breading and mutagenesis. Mutation breeding is the process of exposing seeds to chemicals or radiation in order to generate mutants with desirable traits to be bred with other cultivars. Plants created using mutagenesis are sometimes called mutagenic plants or mutagenic seeds. From 1930–2014 more than 3200 mutagenic plant varietals have been released that have been derived either as direct mutants (70%) or from their progeny (30%). "Though poorly known, radiation breeding has produced thousands of useful mutants and a sizable fraction of the world’s crops...including varieties of rice, wheat, barley, pears, peas, cotton, peppermint, sunflowers, peanuts, grapefruit, sesame, bananas, cassava and sorghum."

One thing I like to ask you anti-science types.

Why are people living longer?

And I mean a LOT longer?

That isn't a very scientific response. I assume that's the best you could come up with.

If in fact we were living longer it would be silly to attribute that to the pasteurization of milk. There are many things that effect life expectancy and the data we use today did not exist 100 years ago. Infant mortality is what makes it appear that we are living longer. Living in cities is often not healthy. Reduced air pollution makes a deference and something as simple as moving to a new city or in this case country can have a devastating effect on infant mortality. Have you see some of the crap they've fed infants over the years? During the first fifty years of pasteurization there was no fortified infant formula. Before pasteurization there was canned milk. There was even a time when they fed infants sugar water.

Simpler just to abolish the state entirely.

Nobody has to use substandard anything. Leave them to do what they want and pretty soon the gene pool will cleanse itfuckingself.
This is a must see for anyone concerned with this countries new normal. Or big government as some call it.

Look the problem isn't rocket science. We can feed the kids healthy food with lots of energy with a little thought and planning. The biggest problem with Michelle Obama's food program is the way the lunch lady's make it. Seriously some of it looks like slop. If the lunch lady's can't cook why do they even have a job.

This is a fairly healthy lunch. It's simple whole grain sandwich, fruit, water and vegetables. Now if a kid needs more calories than that because of after school sports perhaps their parents can pack them a granola bar or some other snack to eat before they exercise. Quite frankly in most cases it's not an issue. When my daughter graduated HS I never saw so many fat teen in my life.

Now if the lunch lady puts this on your kids plate as one of the Michelle Obama's lunches they should be fired immediately. There is not way someone with training in the food industry should serve a meal to your kids that looks as bad as this does.

That's what Ive been saying all along. When the new standards came out okay there was some confusion and some products didn't taste very good, but those problems have been fixed.

If your school is serving inedible lunches, that is a LOCAL problem, go complain to your local school board.

Yeah but --- what did it look like before it was eaten?

what the hell IS that? Lol....The problem the lunch ladies run into is they have a seriously restricted budget, and they have so many regulations with regards to temperature, cleanliness, and storage that it makes it very difficult to provide meals like the one in the first image. I have cooked for a jail, group homes and for a juvenile detention facility...it is challenging. But seriously, what the hell is that on the white plate?

What you say is true, I mean a kitchen that has to cook for a thousand kids a day for what a buck a kid , is obviously going to face challenges, but even within the guidelines , schools that aren't serving decent lunches are failing to do so because of local failures.

Really , the only thing wrong with the new USDA rules regarding school lunches is the hypocrisy.

How come the government can mandate what food a school student may eat with federal money, yet people on SNAP are allowed to eat whatever garbage they want?

Either the maxim "if the government helps pay for it , the government gets to tell you what to eat" applies, or it doesnt.
