what so bad about socialism

Even though Margaret may have felt this way, the UK is a very success socialistic country, and provides amazing citizen benefits that American could only dream about.
I have amazing benefits. Worked my tail to the bone for 50 years but I have a comfortable life and I earned every penny. I don't get anything from the taxpayers.

I'm sure you did sir, and you sound like someone we should all admire. Even though you had success, we just don't live in a world where everyone succeeds no mater how hard they try. I guess I empathize with the people that work and work, and never make it. I myself am very successful, so I'm not looking to take advantage. We'll always need waiters, cashiers, etc..., I think we just can't ignore them.
Socialism in theory is almost heaven but as long as there are certain humans involved a whole herd of them are fighting to be the big dog. Let Socialism stay in Europe.

That's true sir, there will always be humans fighting to the top. We want that... That's what make capitalism such a successful system. I'm pro Capitalism in private industry, but we need government to regulate the big dogs from abusing the rest of the heard. We already have socialism in this country now. Welfare, unemployment, Medicaid, Police protection, Fire, etc... It's my opinion we need more not less. That's all. I'm guessing you feel we need less.
You don't need to call me sir. I worked for a living. Makes me feel old. We need to get American manufacturing back in the country. Trump sez he will bring it back. That alone would solve the unemployment, welfare, food stamps and all the other free stuff. That's what's killing the economy.

I really thought I would have more support than this. Liberal's don't like free stuff sir, but we don't like people so suffer, and we do want everyone living outside of poverty, and enjoying there lives. I encourage anyone with very different views to please google happiest countries in the world, and see the results. Then spend some time looking that there politics, benefits, and rights... You might be surprised what you find.

I've been to every one of those countries in the past 58 years and none of them have any thing on Uncle Sams patch of ground. Any of their residents would rather be here than there.

Well, I personally believe it's due to the media that comes from the states. We sell ourselves as one big rich cool city. They only what to come to New York, LA, or Miami and live like the Kardashians AKA (the American Fantasy).

I suspect they also take there Rights for granted.

Those countries are happy because they're: mostly white, religious, no Illegal immigrants and relatively sparsely populated

I agree with most of what you said. creating jobs would be great in reducing welfare, food stamps, and so on. We need this. From my comments you can understand I'm not a Trump supporter. lol I'll also stop calling you sir...

There isn't a first world nation on earth that doesn't use some socialism. Most first world countries are what are called social democracies!!!(Political science term!)

What is that? They have hybrid economies of regulated capitalism and a public sector! The public sector paves our roads, educates most children that can't pay for a expensive private education and regulates food quality! Plus a whole lot more.

Pure capitalism is as ugly as pure socialism! Allowing the rich to rule over us isn't democratic or good for 99% of everyone else.

Most countries with a higher per capita then us have
1. Public schools and most of them are better then ours!
2. nationalized healthcare and free college in some cases!

What I think is funny is how conservatives = government with the failure of our schools. None of the top 10 educational systems on earth are PRIVATE!!!
lol!

Many european countries spend a great deal on science, r&d and infrastructure and they kick our ass.

I've seen and experienced great things in countries that are more geared to socialism. The happiest rated countries in the world are all highly socialistic countries. Why can't we do what we already know that works?

dear, you seem to lack the IQ to be here

1) America has the highest corporate taxes in the world and highest family dissolution rate in the world so can be seen as most socialistic. We depend on the top 1% for tax revenue more than any country in the world!!

2) the little European countries are happy because they are little simple countries, Major industrial European "socialist" countries are less happy than the USA and certainly would be inclined to copy Norway more than us given that they are neighbors and supposedly "socialistic" too. If they can't copy them certainly we cant either.

3) Everything is invented in the USA. We hold 80% of all recent medical patents. Without the glorious USA inventing everything the world would be living at 20% of its current standard of living. See how stupid it is to suggest changing America?

4) socialism killed 120 million so the idea of switching to it is obscene and stupid and liberal.

5) the reason Norway Europe Russia and Asia don't have socialists like Hitler Stalin and Mao is that we show them a better way so they resist their natural lib Nazi attitudes. Get it? They follow us; we don't follow them. Imagine how stupid you must be to suggest the opposite?

There's no reason to be so aggressive and insulting. My IQ is just fine, and I'm half way through my MBA. Not everything is so Black and White. Your on a soap box about extremism. I'm not a Communist lol, I'm only pro benefits that would be considered rights to help Americans live better lives. Like equal healthcare for all Americans, more financial services for Families, students, handicap, and the elderly. I'm also pro for all full time working Americans to have mandatory paid vacation.

I respect your point your trying to make, but I disagree with your facts, and extreme examples. Your peacocking, and avoiding a debate.

You can't measure happiness, so your list is meaningless. It's flypaper for suckers.

Though the OP is naive with his wayward view, wouldn't calling him names make him less likely to change his mind?

If you don't like socialism, and you actually want minds to understand its historically-documented flaws, you're sort of shooting yourselves in the foot.

It's dangerous for the same reasons as theocracy. It centralizes too much power over society.

Yeah. Absolutely. The urge to demonize those who disagree with us is self-defeating.

It'll only cause them to dig deeper in their trenches, and their hate and anger we caused them will be their fuel.

I mean, GOD. If you want to win an ideological war, you have to change minds. Being calm, kind, patient and rational might just help!

If more politicians played Werewolf(aka Mafia) they my understand this more. ;)

How about you tell us of these so called great places and their benefits before you run down the U.S.....not that it doesnt need a little running down with the socialist idiot and chief we have for a leader.

I must use my words carefully, because I've obviously struck a nerve with the average opinion. I've spent seven years working for a Finnish company, and made some great friends, and visited often for business. I've also lived in Australia for 5 years, and became a Citizen. With that said these experiences changed my views, and that is that. I've seen and enjoyed another way of life, and I feel the average American would feel the same if they could experience it.

In Australia I received free healthcare, "a right" of 4 weeks of paid vacation, $300 per child per month, and a baby bonus. They have many other programs as well. Australia is a free market, has a successful economy, and always ranking high in the "Happiest Countries Report.

With these benefits my family always received amazing medical attention they need without financial stress. It assisted greatly with the security that my children were well taken care of Financially. I also was able to spend quality time with 4 weeks of vacation each year (paid + an additional percentage) Yes you heard me, you make more money when you vacation in Australia, than working.

You can't argue from an experience level that everyone of these benefits would improve your personal quality of life in some way, and potentially make you a happier personal.

I also encourage you to view this CNN Money articular about Minimum wage. This country has the best minimum wage in the world - May. 14 2015

I'm sure the majority of you will twist and tear my words, and most likely personally insult me. That makes no difference, because most, if not none of you can comment from experience, only from what you read, and what people tell you. You can only be influence from other opinions, and can't form your own from personal experience.

I can measure my happiness very easily. It's an emotion that I think most human can scale. So I can't agree with your statement.

I've never understood the mindset of a person who wishes to be a slave to their government. Perhaps you can explain that to the rest of us.
