What makes god moral?

Quite some years ago I read a short story that was based on the premise that God, omnipotent and all that, was suffering a severe bout of ennui. Of course it wasn't about God being bored and was full of allusions to humanity but it's one of those little stories that have stayed with me.
 
Assuming that one believes in the existence of a deity, one can infer from God's act of stimulating the creation of the physical universe that what can be described as "beneficence" is part of the divine essence. Beyond that, nothing can be known. Literally ascribing any emotional attributes to a deity is illogical.
