Hitler, like Mussolini, came from the Capitalist Right Wing and made damned sure the Capitalist Few controlled everything until they cemented power and then became everyone's worst nightmare. Meanwhile Stalin came from the left from the Communist side until he cemented his power and became everyone's worst nightmare.

Capitalism cannot rule anymore than communism or pure socialism can rule. Both leads to the same nightmare sooner than later. But we need one to offset the other to prevent the worst of the worst from happening. Meanwhile, we need Social Democracy to ride herd over everything to make it work. How you get that to work comes in different ways which may include like most successful countries become and that is a Federal Republic of one form or another.

You can hand the word Socialist onto anything or Democratic onto anything but that doesn't make it either one. And that seems to be what has happened and people seem to believe that hanging those two words on extremely bad regimes means that Socialism and Democracy is a bad thing. What's a bad thing is the stupidity of the general masses.

If you work for wal mart it is capitalism you are of peasant stock the way you are treated. If you work for a monopoly or government you are of privilege and it is socialism the way you are treated. It does not matter about the logistics of what a type of economic system is in place. It matters only on how much you get for our employment. The debt, social welfare system, military spending, social security and medicare are in the conversation also along with others not mentioned.

This is the normal annual increase for the CEOs while the Corporate Workers goes from zero to a high of 3%. But the CEOs percentage stays about the same or higher. Capitalism needs socialism to ride herd over it to keep it from doing some really nasty things. Things like Child Labor, slave labor, slave wages, unsafe and deadly work environments. You badmouth Socialism yet without it, we would be choaking on the air, be poisined by the wanter, and worse. Take a look at the Capitalist that lives in the Whitehouse right now. He wants to remove every environmental law he can. There is a reason Coal has been going out of vogue since 1970 when the US decided to start cleaning up it's act in not only coal but dumping raw chemicals into our streams and rivers. You can badmouth the ones that want those regulations but those regulations have cleaned up this country and we still have a ways to go. Yo must be too young to remember the Chesipegue Bay where the Fish floated on a film of yuk. When you look today, the fish are back and if you do happen fall in, you don't die from the poison. Richard Nixon started this and it's been honored until now. The USA went from the most polluted nation on the face of the Earth to about the average. We were headed for one of the cleanest. Not if it's allowed to go back to the way it was. It's bad when a state like Colorado will fail the Air Test in 2020 if it had continue like it was going in 2012. As it stands now, Colorado will barely pass after shutting down all those Coal fired Power Plants and replacing them with alternative power.

Without a bit of Socialism, Capitalism unchecked is not a good thing. And that is what you suggest. Maybe a little socialism over the shoulder ain't so bad afterall.

Young peoples' apparent embrace of "socialism" is more a matter of economic ignorance and victimization by public school propaganda than any intelligent movement. Had they been able to see what the Soviet Union was, how it operated and how it treated its people, perhaps "they" wouldn't be so clueless about socialism. And if they were a little bit more attuned to how life works in Denmark, and not some fantasy based on ignorance. Denmark embraces its capitalism.

As for "free" college, I'm fine with it. (I am a Trump supporter and a card-carrying member of the Great Right-Wing Conspiracy). Make college "free" and restrict it to the top 25% of the students in the State, based on TEST SCORES. No affirmative action or diversity bullshit. It can be funded similarly to the public schools we currently have, just add a few percent to your property taxes.

But in my view, these public colleges should exist without all the bullshit that accompanies our current higher "education" paradigm, and inflates the cost. No athletic scholarships, no non-academic clubs or activities sponsored by the taxpayers, and a limited number of majors, none of which would include the word, "studies." No persons, classes, or departments containing the word, "diversity," No fewer than 40 students in any class, and year-round sessions, with a normal graduation time of three (3) years.
