What if Newt wins South Carolina?

It will make SC look bad and just delay the inevitable.

Newt is the worst GOP nominee among Romney and Santourm because he is a lightning rod for liberal voters and he has some kook quotes out there.

Romney is the steady politician that will whip Obamination, and who cares about his Mormon religion. He is going to be paid to run the country, not go to church. Church for libs like Clinton and Obamination was just a political rally in between messing up the country.

I think it is hialrious that the Party of Morals is clinging to the Master of Immorals as their "anyone but Mitt" alternative. It makes me crack up laughing!

The Dems at the WH must be rolling in the isles. I heard this morning that even the Tea Party moralists are lining up behind Newt. He is soon to be known as the Champion Snake Oil Salesman of all time!

GO NEWT!

Here is what and why we laugh at the left. I have saved this illustration because it shows reality.

Which goes to explain the axiom that Modern Liberalism is the easiest most gutless choice a human can make as a model to run thier lives.

Obama can't run on his record or the economy or anything else that should have improved under his "leadership". (Calling his activities leadership is like calling cancer a growth spurt.)

If any opponent of obama cannot return the discussion to the economy and the utter and complete failure of Obama to help the average guy and the country in general, Obama will win. We all know that the media stenographers will echo whatever the Democrats tell them to say.

Obama's campaign will be to show that the bankers and the 1% are keeping the 99% down.

Not much different that Hitler blaming the "Jew Bankers" for the ills of the pre-Nazi Germans.

We need an orator with the incisive intellect and the powerful and focused speaking style of Newt to beat the Failure in Chief. Watching him redefining the attack of John King was priceless.

If only he'd finished with this sentence: "Bitch."

So Joe, if I were to say "Go Romney", would you vote for him?

Go Newt!

I think we've firmly established that I'm against Romney because he's Romney.

I think Newt can win under the right circumstances. But Im more for playing the long game. Newt is on the long game, where the GOP has to build the bridges to the working class that were burned by the Bushes.

You see, here's the thing. I think most Americans are really conservative in their own lives, even if they vote liberal too often. No one takes their paycheck on Friday and walks down the street giving it to stew bums and crack heads. But they vote for the government to do this for some odd reason.

Most Americans are for traditional family values. We are not European socialists and never will be.

But the GOP's problem is that it sides with the wealthy and is seen as a tool of their interests. They also have real problems with minorities, because it was easier to play on fear than build bridges to people who agree with you.

Newt can build those bridges. Romney is just an aloof rich guy who says bizarre shit like "I like to be able to fire people" and "Corporations are people, too."

Yeah, most people ARE for "family values"...just not the conservative narrow view of them. How does Newt represent "family values" by any stretch of the imagination to begin with?

How is Gingrich any less on the side of the wealthy than Mitt? Newt's tax plan would have Mittens paying even LESS in taxes than he is now. He doesn't want to increase the capital gains tax, no matter how he rails against what Willard paid in taxes.

Gingrich as a "bridge builder"? On what planet?

All that being said...go Newt :D

The story cites Nate Silver's odds of 62% for a Gingrich victory in South Carolina. As of now, however, those odds have risen to 82% (Gingrich Is Well-Positioned as South Carolina Votes - NYTimes.com). So a Gingrich victory now looks quite likely, though not inevitable.

Newt seems to have really benefited from Perry's endorsement. Unfortunately for him, it's unlikely that he will pick up another endorsement like that, even if he does win convincingly in South Carolina. Santorum seems too stubborn to drop out any time soon, and he doesn't seem to like Gingrich very much. Other past candidates also seem beyond endorsing Gingrich: Bachmann anti-endorsed him (Michele Bachmann Campaign Disputes Claim That She Will Not Endorse Newt Gingrich [UPDATED]) and Herman Cain chose to endorse "the people" as his nominee of choice (Herman Cain's big endorsement? 'We the people' - Los Angeles Times).

In any case, Gingrich's South Carolina surge promises that the current mess of a primary season will continue on for quite some time. The Intrade odds of a Republican victory in the presidential race have correspondingly fallen slightly.

No doubt. the contested primary between the Dems last time doomed any chance for the Big 0.

Much of Newt's ethics problems revolved around his taped and broadcast classes which aired on PBS. I watched that whole class wire to wire. It was definitely college level and dealt with the multitude of topics that comprise the American experience.

He understands what WE are. He understands where we've come from. He knows the history of the Republic and it's obvious that he loves the whole notion of America and is in love with the sheer greatness of what America is and what WE could be.

His vision is of that greatness and of the continuation of the greatness of America.

That vision will resonate with the greatest number of Americans.

Contrasted with the cancerous vision of America held by the Detractor in Chief, that vision will be like a taste of holiday pie compared to Obama's poison apple.

Yeah, right. And the nominee that scared the Dems the most was Huntsman.

Again, maybe I'm getting old, but I remember liberals in 1980 saying, "Please Nominate Ronald Reagan and not George Bush, because Bush is electable and Reagan is so far off to the right he can't ever get elected. "

Need a reminder of how that turned out for you?

I think you also miss the whole point of "morals". We know people aren't perfect. We know marriages fail. Sorry, they just do, sometimes. Nobody really faulted John Kerry for his ex-wife. Or John McCain. They traded up.

True about Reagan; however, once elected, Reagan governed much more from the center than from the right. Ever remember Reagan saying we should cut Social Security or did he raise the Social Security tax? How many times did Reagan actually raise taxes after he cut them? Reagan was a pragmatist, not an ideological conservative willing to drown with his beliefs. Yes, he wanted lower taxes and smaller government, but he understood that the most important element of government was making certain it worked for everyone.

then Florida will take center stage.

Excellent prediction. What do you charge for your sessions?

I was going to say Florida would determine the election, but that may be too bold.

ONLY because unlimited money now lets someone who has regularly come in 3rd or 4th to keep going, hoping to catch fire, or banking on the frontrunner stumbling.

Rick Parry could have stayed in, with the millions he has. Gingrich got that $5 million from the casino owner in Vegas.

I think that in past years, your comment is correct: Florida is the lock-up state.

If he wins by a little, it doesn't mean much.

If he wins big, it could open up the race and make things interesting.

You have to wonder what Mitt is thinking during this period. He has the money. He has the organization. But Newt appears to be taking on the "anyone but Mitt" crown. Can he take a SC win into Florida and maintain momentum?

FRIGIN AMAZING!

I care about the Mormon stuff. I won't vote for him on the basis of that alone. Of course, there are a lot of other reasons. As for kook quotes, we have-

"I like to be able to fire people"
"Corporations are people, too, My friend"
"I can't have illegal aliens, I'm running for office for Pete's Sake"

If Romney couldn't beat Ted Kennedy or John McCain, how is he going to beat Obama, really?

If Newt wins in South Carolina it only means one thing, really. Even the most evangelical of the Christian right cares more about their wallets than someone else's morals.

If we pay attention to liberals, does Newt Gingrich's infidelities make someone else unfaithful to their wife or husband? Does the faillures of his marriage mean your marriage is going to fail? If he really and truly has walked out on wives that have gotten sick, does that mean you too will be forced to walk out on your spouse?

Can anyone spot where these arguments come from?
