A border fence is far more practical than a wall in most places. The existing fencing near San Diego has reduced illegal crossing by 60% and is a fraction of the cost of a solid metal or concert wall. The best border security is a combination of virtual fencing using various technologies and barriers geared to the topology and geology of the region, electronic monitoring, and sufficient personnel to arrest perpetrators. Building a southern border wall may sound good in political speeches but it's certainly not the best choice in regard to cost and security.a border fence? While I'll probably read the article anyway...the Border Patrol has stated they prefer a border barrier that they can see through...so I suspect the border wall will not be a solid concrete barrier.
The difference between a border wall and a fence is the time to cross it. Both can be crossed, it just takes different equipment and 5 or 10 minutes longer to get over a wall.
