Putin has stepped into this thing with both feet now. Since he's made himself and his country an international pariah, he may as well go all the way.

He may be thinking that things will calm down at some point, and that restrictions and sanctions may be lifted. He may well be right about that.

"If Russia attacks Western arms shipments ... it takes the conflict to a new level, of NATO vs. Russia,' Timothy Ash, senior emerging markets sovereign strategist at BlueBay Asset Management, said on Saturday, adding that a 'critical moment in this conflict [is] coming up.'"

What happens if a non-NATO state comes to Ukraine's aid?

"Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a call with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, discussing 'Russian aggression and the prospects for peace talks,' Zelenskyy said in a tweet Saturday night.

If he was using carpet bombing and strategic bombers he would have both feet in.

He is encircling cities.............and will cut them off from supply taking his time......til they either starve or quit.

these arms convoys under protection of our air defense systems and as we all know Moscow air attack capabilities SUCKS big time

If you can with graphs. Bring up the nuclear, biological and chemical weapons of nations.

no its our and Ukraine´s technological underhand

Yes they are good weapons.........And the Russians are amateurs at dealing with it.

They have to use mass infantry to clear an area then bring in armor...........

Then it's gun on gun............something he wants to avoid. So he is encircling.

Of course, enemy supply lines are legitimate targets. When have they ever not been?

yikes

I'm guessing China is smarter than that, but who knows.

I think Putin vastly overestimates his ability to manipulate them, but that there is still a notable danger if western powers over commit at the wrong moment. I think in his mind it looks something like this:
  1. Pull NATO into the conflict in a way that he can sell to Russians as them being the victims.
  2. Russian population rallies, morale drives fierce fighting.
  3. US heavily invests military capability into European theater.
  4. PRC invades Taiwan expecting the US to be too occupied to care.
  5. US ends up in primarily naval war against the PRC.
  6. North Korea starts shooting shit, because Kim.
  7. US now in land war with PRC and North Korea, backs out of Europe.
  8. New Russian leadership steamrolls Europe and a late Putin is remembered as the new Russian founding father.

I can see the mind of a strongman dictator using that thought process, especially when he has no one telling him "no" or even questioning it.

It's difficult now to think that he didn't massively miscalculate. For that miscalculation, he's destroying a country and creating millions of innocent refugees.

No he’s not right about that. The worst will not end until he’s crushed because they can ill forward another Hitler in their midst.

The Europeans will not let him get away with this. They can’t afford to because they’re next
