We WERE Americans

In order to accomplish what?
A dialogue and sharing of ideas. Agreeing when one person has a good point and being able to disagree like , was going to say adults, but we should do better, Adults don't do communicate well. Why is that?

This happens all the time in this country just not usually in politics. There's a reason for that, the point of politics isn't to get along and share ideas and it definitely isn't to admit you're wrong.
Admitting you were wrong about something is so terrible? I was wrong about something I wrote earlier today and someone corrected me on it. Called me a liar. I read his link and he was right. I was wrong. My message (best to memory)
"Dotcom your are right. I stand corrected. Thank you."
That wasn't so hard to do. None of us are right 100% of the time. Isn't it more responsible to have a reputation of being honest knowing you can't be right all of the time? Some people have a reputation for insulting when the conversation turns on them. That's just the opposite of what we should be doing. Just my 2 cents.

No it's not wrong. What I asked you was in order to accomplish what? Without a political organization in place all you're really talking about is conversation.
I guess you are right. But, we have to have that conversation to get those things done, right? can we come from different viewpoints and compromise on an idea? How can Congress do it if we can't on a mere message board? We have a problem with our egos, I think. What do you think?

OK. I've read several posts of yours calling for compromise. I have a question. Do you believe that the Affordable Care Act represents a case of democrats compromising in order to attain a common goal?

It's always the RWNJ traitors who are ashamed of their own country.

We would be so much better off if they stopped their whining and their crapping on the USA and just left.

You worthless bums - Love it or leave it.

Isn't it possible to identify a problem and being able to talk about it without, "traitors," "whining" "worthless bums?" Just leave it?
Tell that to your fellow rightists – starting with the OP.

The fact remains that this is just more gloom and doom fear-mongering from the partisan right, where things are 'bad' in America because the president belongs to the 'wrong party.'
It would probably be the same way if it was a Republican president. How long did the left go on, It was Boosh's fault when it wasn't his administration? Years.

Huh?

This fails as a straw man fallacy, nothing but ridiculous lies completely devoid of fact or merit.

That is his standard reply to all threads here. Needless to say YOU put more content in ONE reply then he puts on the ENTIRE board in a year.

And if I forgot to say welcome when you arrived? Welcome to USMB.

Thank you. I joined about a week and a half ago. I've noticed he relies heavily on the straw man accusation.
I don't really know what your politics is but you are a good add to this board. I have only been reading you for a couple of days now.
But your style is civil but solid so that IS a good sign. The BEST debates the best threads are done by HONEST people. We have liberals here I disagree with but respect.

The muslims on this board for the most part are more active to open thought then Jones. So tighten your belt and find your trench because its BIG game season this year. TROPHY BUCK no less. This board is going to ROCK when the time comes because it IS loaded with talent.

So stick around, we all may learn something.

Wow! This is important stuff.

Yeah, but I'm half Mexican so "White Supremacist" does not exactly fit me.
I can never work out the American racial hierarchy. Are Mexicans not 'white'? I guess it's the Aryan influence.
We were not white until Zimmerman shot somebody then we were white Mexicans. The liberals did that. Of course they CHOSE to ignore the FACT that Carlos "Chuck" Norris is ALSO a "white Mexican".

Small oversight right?
I think the PC-approved term is "White Hispanic". I would know that because that's evidently what I am.

Identity Politics and PC have divided this country terribly. They pit American against American based purely on ethnicity.

We have become hyphenated, E Pluribus Unum is dead. The anger and hatred we see everywhere has been artfully engineered.

don't worry. In the 2020 Census, we will have a listing for "pompous asshole", which describes you to a tee.

Identity Politics and PC have divided this country terribly. They pit American against American based purely on ethnicity.

No, guy, what divides this country is that you ARE treated differently depending on you skin tone.

Tamir Rice (black 12 year old playing with a toy) is SHOT ON SIGHT, while Ammon Bundy (middle age white guy talking smack about shooting federal agents) can wave his guns around for weeks before someone does something about it.

You have to be willfully blind to NOT see the difference. And it doesn't stop at law enforcement. Just look at hiring patterns, what whites are hired to do vs. what non-whites are hired to do.

We have become hyphenated, E Pluribus Unum is dead. The anger and hatred we see everywhere has been artfully engineered.

Yes, why don't those darkies go back to eating their watermelon and singing spirituals like they are supposed to, instead of being so uppity and demanding equal treatment under the law.

I agree with the OP. This is a post I wrote for another board years ago when I realized where Obama was leading us

Because I was raised to love God & Country. My grandparents were hard working tobacco farmers for all their lives. They never ventured far from their home in Tennessee. During my youth, I spent my summers there working in the hot August fields and in the top of some bat and spider infested barns. But you know what? It felt like Utopia. The family would gather on Sundays for dinner (lunch down south) then retire to the vast fields for games of baseball until the lighting bugs blinked at sunset. America was a different place then. It was a place were a man was judged by the sweat off his brow and how he provided for his family. As grandma used to say; "I don't care if you dig a ditch for a living, just dig it to the best of your ability". They were true Americans who taught me the value and pride which comes from a hard days work.

I have tried to pass the culture to my son's. And to some extent, it is still a work in progress. It's just hard for them to see the forest through the trees. Some today get more fired up about a new release of the Ipad than it does at the prospects of employment. Sad

What would my grandparents think today of the America that turned it's back on their values? I picture the Indian with a tear in his eye (viewing litter) from the commercial years ago. The difference today is he would be reduced to a mere man on his knees viewing the cesspool society has manifested and nurtured.

The election was a referendum on the American Dream as my generation knew it. The shear fact that a little over half of us (America collectively) voted for the continued weakening of our National Sovernity is hard to stomach.

I can only hope the reason immigrants flock to America is because of the image it used to reflect, not the image of today. But as the subj: reads, I am on the slippery slope called hope and am growing more bitter by the day.

Agreed and who is it that actively promotes identity politics? It is politicians and the media. They divide Americans not only on this issue, but many others. When will Americans wake up to this charade?

There are currently too many people who have a vested interest in separating us far beyond any real differences.

Most of those interests are political, some are financial, and they're still being very effective.

I don't know what fixes this, or when. Sad to watch, though, we should be better than this.

There WAS a day went that meant something. NATIONAL pride was more then an idea a concept it was a FACT, it was a practice. But it has been slowly stripped away and discarded by political hobo's. I know I am not wrong in remembering this, because it was a part of everyday life.

I'm sure there are MANY members here such as Jackson or randall Flagg even Sonny Clark that can remember this. It was almost inherent in our blood.
Nor are we the only nation or people to endure his FORCED loss. Stratford57 can see it in his country and Lucy Hamilton can see it in hers.

We not only have those left wing lunatics deriding us for ours they insist ALL must give it up. What do our and those government propose to replace it with? SOCIALIST government where NOT a thought is yours. You do realize that government NEVER advances only reacts.

There is no advancement under socialist government because that form of government is designed to be stable and never changing. Under a communist government {USSR} the government builds cars and the design hardly ever changes. MOST socialist countries don't even build cars of their own design.

Canada builds cars for Ford/GM/Dodge/Toyota and Honda. All designed in other countries by other people. Canada builds the Winnebago on an American truck platform. They simply do not design/build their own platforms They have outsourced their tech just as American has outsourced its labor.

There WAS a time when all countries displayed their best. German steel was number one. Russian ship building was the best and America built cars for anywhere in the world on any budget and could handle any road.

National pride. The Russians have re-found theirs in a fellow named Putin. Germany struggles right now to find its and in November the world will watch to see IF America has found hers. We are no more the leader of the free world today then Mexico. Germany is no more Europe's free world leader then Greece.

National pride is the ONLY thing that puts you there because with national pride comes ideas and sweat. Hillary has no national pride and never has. The world has seen and suffered at the lack of Obama. Germany is fast falling into chaos because of its leaders HATE for its people. We in this country have a FLOTUS on record with her hate for our way. Just how stupid was that?

So what makes me think we can make America great again? Because we ARE Americans and that just IS what we do...

Fury

Excellent piece, Fury. It is so easy to become disappointed when we see the direction our country is taking. Many of us feel it. And, to think we could have a POTUS that is a socialist or one that has less integrity than a common thief, one just wants to shake their head and take a deep sigh.

But as you said, We are Americans and we have to believe that our citizens and immigrants can work together to make this country the leader of the free world, with jobs for all that want one, where we live in harmony again. It's not too hard if we remember for the most part, we are all Americans and want the best for every man, woman and child. Can we do it? Yes? Is there something more important than Democrat or Republican? Yes. This election, let's find a candidate who can bring us together and work for the greatness of this country!

"This election, let's find a candidate who can bring us together and work for the greatness of this country!" -Jackson

The last sentence of your post, hit the nail on the head.
We seem to have almost nothing but dividers running for president.
We do have one candidate who has the proven ability bring people together. His history shows he knows how to work both sides of the aisle and he was re-elected with votes from the other side of the aisle. He has bipartisan popularity.
Poll after poll after poll shows that a huge majority of Americans, from the right, from the left and from the center, want our president and congress to work in a bipartisan manner and actually get things done. This country has a lot of problems. Unfortunately, we have hyper-partisan children running our government, who stomp their feet, go into the name calling mode and refuse to deliver legislations that positively benefits ALL Americans. These "party first" politicians are going against the will of 70% of Americans!
Electing John Kasich, would be a giant step in the right direction.

I like Kasich, too. I think you are on the right track! He has done it in Ohio. I am hoping that Tuesday he has legs and will be in the top three.!

Let me interject please----------> National pride comes from the greatest opportunity on the planet to improve your life, no matter who you are. People do not want in America to be worse off, they want in to be better off.

The main reason it is sooooo hard to stop the political sniping is------------> nobody is willing to admit that BOTH sets of ideas put forth allow gains, and losses. It is also hard when they continue to protect Presidents who screwed the pooch that were "their guy," and attack other Presidents who did very well, but were NOT "their guy!"

Just watch what kind of response this gets, lol-------------> If you take out wars, when did this country start moving in the leftward direction quickly? Was it....

1. Bill Clinton?

2. GW Bush?

3. BHO?

The real answer is............GW Bush; and yet, you would never know it. Most would say Obama or Clinton, but nothing could be further from truth! GW pushed us down this road with his spending, his prescription program, his compassionate conservatism, and a host of other societal "adjustments" he made. A true conservative would have demanded vouchers for every kid in America. Instead, he gave us no child left behind, which has also been a boondogle. All Obama did was continue in the direction that GW started, most apparent in domestic policy.

So the actual truth is, Presidents should NOT be protected by the citizens by party, they should be protected by policies, and outcome. Look at it this way-----------> If Gw could run again for President, and he ran against a re-incarnated JFK, who would you vote for? Me, JFK each, and every time!

Conversely, if Reagan came back to life, and could run against Jimmy Carter again, who would you vote for? Reagan, every time! (in fact, 1/3 of the Democrats did exactly that twice)

So, to call a truce, we all have to admit that some of our guys stunk it out, and some of their guys did a pretty good job! If we do that, then yes, we can take the good things they all had, and mold them into something that could actually work for everyone. But, if we are not willing to admit the truth of history, then what makes any of us think we can agree upon a course for the future!

And then, you have the heavily partisan people and both party's, who will never admit that the other side did something good, at anytime. They want it "their way, or the highway." You can always tell these people who will attack Clintons economic performance, or Reagans. They refuse to allow any nice words about the other side to leave their lips. They re-write history to fit their narrative, and any history they can't re-write, they ignore. Both sides do it! That is how they keep their backers on the reservation.

The idea that we have somehow lost our national pride is poppycock. We may stumble along the way but America has always been great.

Sorry,I dont believe the millions of immigrants give a rats ass about this country or what it means to be American....and they dont care to learn.
They're here for the free shit.

People have been making that claim since immigrants first arrived to America and yet they assimilate nicely into our culture.

There WAS a day went that meant something........

That day is still TODAY. If you can't see that, go fix YOU.
I'm am fine its government that needs fixed.
You are not fine. You are an idiot 'Conservative'. Always whining, mewling, and puking while the rest of us work to make our nation, the United States of America, a better nation. And, yes, we will change the nation under either Clinton or Sanders. We will achieve a Health Care System that provides universal health care for all at a much lessor price than we are paying today. We will achieve a more equitable income distribution among the people in this nation.

As a voting American Citizen, I believe our Health Care System should be #1, not down in the third world numbers. I believe that anyone working full time should have a salary which will put a roof over their heads and provide them with adequate nutrition. I believe that there are jobs that should be done, such as thinning and cleaning up our forests, that could be done with a similiar program to the old CCC, providing jobs for the unskilled, and training in becoming skilled. I believe that science is far more important that ideology, and that those that deny it for the money of the energy corporations are traitors to this nation. I believe that those that would try to bully the rest of us with the display of weapons, such as happened in Oregon, should be put away for a good long time, and denied access to weapons for the rest of their lives.

Yes, America is always changing. Consider who was allowed to vote when we first became a nation. But our Declaration of Independence stated that 'All men are created equal'. It has taken us almost 250 years to make that declaration a fact. Now we are addressing other inequalities. And that will make a lot of people uncomfortable, especially 'Conservatives'. Too bad, time move on, and those living in the past stay there, watching the world change, and wondering why no one listens to them.

OK. I've read several posts of yours calling for compromise. I have a question. Do you believe that the Affordable Care Act represents a case of democrats compromising in order to attain a common goal?
What kind of compromise are you looking for? Earlier in this thread, yesterday, you turned on another poster with your comments:

1) "It's always the RWNJ traitors who are ashamed of their own country.

We would be so much better off if they stopped their whining and their crapping on the USA and just left.

You worthless bums - Love it or leave it"

2) "Pretty strange coming from a white supremacist, ignorant, cracker, trailer trash like you."

Does this lend itself for a continuation of a dialogue? Why should I respond to you when you will return with attacks and name calling? I'm not altruistic here. Just a poster who likes to share ideas with others. You, it appears, find it difficult to put your thoughts out there, to be open to others' possible criticism to continue dialogue. When you don't have a "winning" answer for something you attack like a caged animal.

Now, as to your question, "no." I didn't see it as a compromise. Nancy Pelosi took matters in her own hands and conferred with other Democrats, at times, in my opinion, to primarily get votes. The WH was not looking for a compromise, they were looking for a coup.
