Warning of 'ecological Armageddon' after dramatic plunge in insect numbers
The abundance of flying insects has plunged by three-quarters over the past 25 years, according to a new study that has shocked scientists.

Insects are an integral part of life on Earth as both pollinators and prey for other wildlife and it was known that some species such as butterflies were declining. But the newly revealed scale of the losses to all insects has prompted warnings that the world is “on course for ecological Armageddon”, with profound impacts on human society.

The new data was gathered in nature reserves across Germany but has implications for all landscapes dominated by agriculture, the researchers said.

The cause of the huge decline is as yet unclear, although the destruction of wild areas and widespread use of pesticides are the most likely factors and climate change may play a role. The scientists were able to rule out weather and changes to landscape in the reserves as causes, but data on pesticide levels has not been collected.

This right here is what the sixth mass extinction is all about. Humanity probably won't survive this.

Another fiction story...

Let me guess, the so called scientists do not follow the solar cycle like bugs do... Insect populations increase and decrease with solar output. Its been known for centuries.. Even the Romans knew it and wrote about it.. Solar cooling always causes a reduction of insects due to breeding failures. We've been cooling now since 1998 about 25 years.... imagine that... Another item that calls the hottest ev'a meme a lie...

Yup, I probably wouldn't follow Germany's or the EU's lead on environmental issues...Those phony SOB's have trashed their environment.

But as long as they get to drive their cars, and have the insect killer on OUTSIDE, then what's the problem?

LOL..and we have all the doomsayers distracting our world leaders with global warming when it is a lack of insect proliferation that will be our destruction...oh well, at least we know who to blame.

What's to blame is too many people who don't give a fuck.

yeah, cuz they're all caught up in this global warming thing, they think that's what is going to doom humanity...personally I happen to know it is liberalism and that really is a bunch of folk who don't take it seriously enough.

I agree, but not for the reasons you think. You buy the bullshit spewed by the IPCC that works under the auspices of the U.N and UNEP to push this bullshit that this created crisis is the fault of the average human being just trying to eek out an existence on this shitty prison planet. You tree hugging dipshits need to get off of your little soapbox and look up at the sky every now and then. Look at these pics and tell me that this is fucking normal......

Insects are down near the base of the food chain. That means the loss of significant numbers of them will ripple up the food chain. And humans, being at the top of the food chain, at some point, will feel the very negative affects of that. But what the hell, probably won't happen until our great-grandchildren's time, so who gives a fuck? Certainly not a 'Conservative'.

So, you're saying teams led by an ecologist and an insectologist didn't think of this, but a person with zero education in their field (you) did. Seems legit.

Not only can you not walk and chew gum at the same time, you can't even imagine others doing it. It's like a mental block or something.... show us on the doll what happened to you the time you tried to walk and chew gum at the same time. We're here for you.

Coming from an angry "man made" global warming moron that refuses to address the geo-engineering issue that has been global in scope since 1997? I find your lame attempts to insult beyond hilarious.........so this looks like condensation trails to you??????

I care...

I just feel environmentalists should show their commitment by targeting the worst abusers rather than it's all America's fault and in your tortured view .. conservatives and of course President Trump's a given...

Over my life I've seen constructive improvements on environmental concerns in the workplace and elsewhere but how about some realty.. What's with tinder box states like California, sure they all talk .. we love and protect the environment and throw divisive blame but their results on the environment are pure tragedy. Hell, they've even paved over some of my favorite beaches to collect parking fees..

My opinion..(It's about the Money) it shouldn't be a political issue, most people care, liberals "F" over the environment just like everyone else and present your case without the rage and hypocrisy because it's not working.
