The news exaggerates. When reporting on the punishment someone will receive for a crime, they report the maximum amount of years the person could get, under the law. It just sounds more "exciting" to them. Saying that she will probably get 2 years isn't as sexy.

Your point is understood, but the point remains that this incident did not warrant facing a 15 year sentence, yelling and pushing people's items to the side is not a serious "crime" though it was very rude, and inconsiderate. All in all there is no justification for her facing a 15 year sentence. The same "plea deal" they're offering now should have been what they originally charged her with.

This translates that when police arrived they knew where the surveillance cameras outside of Wal-Mart were pointing, so they placed their cars strategically out of view of the camera and forgot one in the cameras site. Then on their way out they suddenly remember that one car in sight of the surveillance camera (which they strategically placed their cars) in order to commit a crime. Sorry, mixed you up with that turd Jenny Eliza, that was a mistake, the Bass apologizes, but the point still stands, the severity of the punishment was unwarranted and no one has said she didn't do anything wrong. Disturbing the peace in the Bass opinion is an ambiguous charge that covers everything from loud music, profanity to loud talking and much more, things that do not warrant a 15 year prison sentence, much less even a charge.

surely you don't dispute that blacks have a different internalized standard of behaviour? how else do you explain the radically different rates of crime, out-of-wedlock births, educational attainment and civility?

perhaps you just don't like my comment on black culture? 'not all blacks are disrespectful and rude' so how can I say such a thing. Why over simplify the matter?

It was more than cutting in line, you saw the video she is shoving the other customers items off the conveyor belt over and over. Can't hear anything but several testified she was also yelling. The video of her departure and what happened with the police is severely limited. We do not see any confrontation at the register-- something both police and she say happened. Many people testified against her and there was a lot more that was said to have happened.

Either way-- let’s pretend all she did was continued to block the other woman from checking out-- which she did on the video. You can she her doing such repeatedly.

No matter how you slice it that is ‘disturbing the peace’. She was offered a plea deal TWO years ago for disturbing the peace... she refused to accept it. So they charge her with everything she did that evening. Sorry this was HER fault period.

She HAD NO right to touch and shove that other patrons items, trying to block her from checking out. And you had better believe that if ANYONE tried that shit with me I would be calling the cops- no matter what color their skin. She was disturbing the peace in trying to get her way.

Any person of any color doing that would have had the cops called on them for the same thing she did. This was not turned into race except by the media and those who wish to pretend that this girl "only cut the line".

The point stupid is that no matter how you cut it, she should not have been facing 15 years at all, period, yelling and cutting a line are not "crimes" that are punishable by a 15 year jail sentence, sorry. What you fail to understands is that the severity of punishment is why people thought it was racial, idiot. here is a meta-analysis covering decades. some studies show a tiny bias one way or the other, some show no bias, but all show an insignificant racial difference in how the Justice system treats criminals. and make no mistake, most of the researchers are full blown liberals just acheing to find some sort of social injustice.
