Wisconsin Lawmakers No Statistical Evidence Waiting Period For Handgun Purchases Decreases Gun Violence - Breitbart

According to Politifact, state senator Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) is pushing the repeal. He is doing so by claiming there is “no statistical evidence that [the waiting period] reduces violence whatsoever.”

Politifact tested this claim and found that a 2000 study by a Georgetown researcher and a Duke researcher discovered that the national waiting period–in place for a time in the 1990s–was “not associated with reductions in homicide rates or overall suicide rates.” A 2003 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report “found that some studies indicated a decrease in violent outcomes associated with the [waiting period], while others indicated an increase.” And a 2012 study that involved research from the University of Cincinnati and as well as from Arizona State University “found no statistical effects from waiting periods on gun crimes.”

These studies found that a waiting period was associated with a lowered rate of suicide among people 55 and older, yet had no impact on violent crime. Politifact concludes, “In a nutshell, except for suicide, the studies show Wanggaard’s claim about waiting periods and violence is largely correct.”

My last purchase, the waiting time was like... 2 minutes? He had my info from a previous purchase and re-ran the background check. I handed him a stack of cash and walked out with a cool stainless Smith J-frame w/2" barrel.

Given the vast number of suicides by gun I see no problem giving them a waiting period to change their mind.

given the more vast number of suicides in Japan and South Korea, they don't even have any guns.........waiting periods are pointless......and just another way the anti gunners just want to put their thumb in the eye of pre self defense people......

Can you tell me the Japanese guy standing on the train platform hasn't changed their mind moments before they jumped?

So if you can't why not give them a chance to change their mind? Why not give the angry guy a chance to cool off when he's thinking about doing something bad?

Because if he wants to do it he is going to do it....just like they do in Japan......he can sit in a car and suck in the fumes and have plenty of time to decide not to do it.........but to arbitrarily do it...when there is no statistical evidence that it makes a difference....

I am tired of laws that do nothing but just have to be created so a few people can feel good....that isn't what laws are for....and I am tired of it.......

Editorial Guns - Keep Wisconsin s 48-hour waiting period for handgun buys
During the 1980s and early 1990s, California had a higher mortality rate from firearms than the nation as a whole. But after a school shooting in Stockton in 1989, the state tightened up its laws, and in the 20 years between 1993 and 2013, that state's firearm mortality rate fell 57%, according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The state passed a series of laws, some designed to prevent gun suicides, which included requirements for safe storage, waiting periods and background checks. The idea was to keep guns out of the hands of those who might be a danger to themselves or others.
