The suspect was killed after exchanging gun fire with police during an hours-long SWAT standoff in Upland on Monday.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside for several hours. After multiple attempts to negotiate with the man, deputies tried to enter the home after deploying tear gas. The suspect then set off explosives shortly before the house burst into flames.

He tried to run out of the house as it burned but died after a shootout with authorities, according to the Upland Police Department.
