MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that the agency is investigating the killing of Cecil the Lion, saying it will “go where facts lead.”

The agency made the announcement via Twitter Thursday.

Also Thursday, the Eden Prairie Police Department said that, while they will be stepping up neighborhood monitoring, they will not be providing personal protection for the dentist who killed a protected lion in Zimbabwe.

“Because of the increased traffic in the neighborhood of Walter Palmer’s residence, the Eden Prairie Police Department is monitoring the neighborhood to ensure the safety and security of the residents and their property,” the department said.

The two men who helped Palmer in his lion hunt made their first appearance in court.

Theo Bronkhorst is a hunting guide with Bushman Safaris. Honest Trymore Ndlovu owns the game farm where Palmer was hunting.

Zimbabwean prosecutors said the men tied a dead animal to their car as bait to lure the lion out of a national park. If convicted, the men face up to 15 years in prison each.

Why is the US getting involved with a crime in Zimbabwe?

There is absolutely no reason for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to get involved in this event.
It is totally out of their jurisdiction.

Not if there is an agreement for cooperation between the two nations along with an extradition treaty...

It's a very valid question to ask. Really what would US Fish and Wildlife Service have anything to contribute to this case?

The U.S. "fish/wildlife service" ain't had a headline case in a freaking century. Since the primary mission of a federal bureaucracy is to get bigger and get more funding and the "justice department would rather investigate a safari hunt instead of the freaking IRS, it's a done deal that fish/wild would get involved. Hell, this case makes Benghazi look like child's play don't it?

The dentist that killed the lion has closed his practice down because his customers are outraged.

Ahhhhh, don't you love it when the free market works its magic.

Really? Do you have a link to that? Because I think a lot of guys would become new clients just to hear him regale his best safari hunts. I would.

Killing of Cecil the lion triggers probe by U.S. agency source Reuters
Walter Palmer is being investigated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to see if it was part of a conspiracy to violate U.S. laws against illegal wildlife trading, a source close to the case said.

The service is probing the killing under the Lacey Act, which bars trading in wildlife that has been illegally killed, transported or sold, the source said on Thursday.

If the Judge from Palmer' s black bear conviction wants Palmer in his courtroom, Palmer will be brought to his courtroom.

Palmer must answer for where each of his trophies are now.

If he is found to have imported body parts of animals prohibited under CITES, Palmer can be convicted and be sentenced for each one.

CITES

Palmer fucked up very badly.

Who did he trade the lion to? This is stupid. He was an ass for killing the lion but it's overblown

A "selfie" does nothing to enhance your argument. Hey, did anybody tell you you look like a young Jack Nicholson on a bad day?
