Unemployment falls to 8.3%

.

Trajectory, baby, November is all about trajectory.

The economy is slowing building a foundation towards some kind of recovery. If the trajectory of the unemployment rate is still heading south in November, even if it's a still-lousy 7.8%, 7.9%, the electorate will look at the GOP alternative and vote Obama back into office with room to spare. Down-ticket will benefit as well.

Then we'll see, huh?

.

The recovery continues....

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- American employers substantially stepped up their hiring in January, bringing the unemployment rate down for the fifth month in a row.

Employers added 243,000 jobs in January, the Labor Department reported Friday, marking a pick-up in hiring from December, when the economy added 203,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 8.3%. That is the lowest since February 2009.

Job growth was much stronger than expected. Economists surveyed by CNNMoney had forecast 130,000 jobs added in the month, and that the unemployment rate likely ticked up to 8.6%.

Because it is the same U-3 standard CON$ used for Reagan through Bush II. But all of a sudden you have a Democratic President and it is pure deception to compare Obama to the others using the same U-3 standard. Now dishonest CON$ want to compare Bush II's U-3 rate to Obama's U-6 rate, anything other than that they consider "Liberal media bias" protecting Obama! :cuckoo:
So, you're equal to BOOOOOSH! in the lying out your ass department.

Glad we could clear that up.

Yes.......BOOOOOSH and Reagan and Daddy BOOOSH, and Clinton

You know, comparing apples to apples
Really?

What were the U-6 numbers under Reagan, Clintoon and the Bushes?

C'mon....Dazzle us.

They forgot to mention the summer of recovery was two years out.

Oh and the stimulus.......It will kick in any day now...seriously.....

The Stimulus has come and gone. It did what it was supposed to do, stimulate the economy and stop a depression

It also prevented an attack by Martians!!!!!!!

I love it when libs, who can't provide any quantifiable evidence that the stimulus accomplished anything, resort to claims that it prevented things that never happened.

The Congressional Budget Office has quantified the evidence myriad times.

I am delighted with the progress of DEVALUE my home has achieved over the last few years. It tickles me to death as it's worth drops - like every other home in America. I also enjoy it when my 401K tanks. It's a fantastic sensation.

My home has gained about 10% over the past three years. Sorry you paid too much in a speculative market.

This thread is proof that good news for America is bad news for Republicans. I can't wait to hear Mittens and Newt spin this.

To reduce the deficit the government is going to stop counting any money it spends after September
well of course! That's the end of the Federal fiscal year.

REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Democrats need to go into rehab to get weened off all that coolaid they drink..........Lowe's and Home Depot hire 50k minimum wage seasonal workers this time of year.......6 weeks later it adios..........to be any where near to being "A RECOVERY" we need to add 500k jobs a month...................unemployment numbers don't even include those that were self employed and lost their business ,and lets not forget those that have fallen off the dole......and heres another thing,Companies who lay off workers are now fighting their claims for unemployment

Exactly that (in bold).
Enough said.

Watch out, you might accused of being a liberal *gasp*.

Impossible. I am too rational and logical to be a liberal.

Record 1.2 Million People Fall Out Of Labor Force In One Month, Labor Force Participation Rate Tumbles To Fresh 30 Year Low | ZeroHedge

A month ago, we joked when we said that for Obama to get the unemployment rate to negative by election time, all he has to do is to crush the labor force participation rate to about 55%. Looks like the good folks at the BLS heard us: it appears that the people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million. No, that's not a typo: 1.2 million people dropped out of the labor force in one month! So as the labor force increased from 153.9 million to 154.4 million, the non institutional population increased by 242.3 million meaning, those not in the labor force surged from 86.7 million to 87.9 million. Which means that the civilian labor force tumbled to a fresh 30 year low of 63.7% as the BLS is seriously planning on eliminating nearly half of the available labor pool from the unemployment calculation. As for the quality of jobs, as withholding taxes roll over Year over year, it can only mean that the US is replacing high paying FIRE jobs with low paying construction and manufacturing. So much for the improvement.

Who is Tyler Durden and why should we believe him?

Isn't that Brad Pitt from Fight Club?

Yes it is....

It shows how low our rightwing posters have to crawl to rebut promising employment numbers. They have to rely on a message board post from someone posing as a Fight Club character

I'd like to assume that the fine folk at Zero Hedge are simply ignorant about the benchmarking change that occurs every January. That's the most benign explanation of this tripe.

The less benign explanation is that they know full well about benchmarking adjustments, and also know the average reader doesn't know about it.

Do you have any data showing these 240,000 jobs are Home Depot jobs?

. The manufacturing sector -- a focal point of President Obama's latest jobs speeches -- added 50,000 jobs in January. Manufacturing has accounted for 14% of the job gains in the last 13 months.
Professional and business services added 70,000 jobs, and education and health services added 36,000 jobs.
But the government has also been bleeding jobs since the middle of 2010, and continued to do so last month. Most of the recent job losses have been at the state and local level. Overall, the public sector cut 14,000 jobs in January.

There was no U6 under Reagan or Bush 1. Under Clinton, it ranged from a low of of 6.8 to a high of 11.8.

Under Bush it ranged from a low of 7.3 to a high of 14.2

No, but incentivizing risky loan making that under a true free-market system would not happen sure is....

It was the free market and lack of regulation that lead to the schemes to make those risks viable. That, and the foolish notion that the American economy was simply too powerful to ever fail. American arrogance is just as much to blame.

GEE, if the labor force INCREASED by half a million, that means those 1.2 million who "dropped out" were 100% replaced plus an additional 1/2 million in the workforce. So rather than the labor force decreasing, the general population is growing greater than the workforce is growing.

Good grief... how old are you?

WoW!

Deficit spending at almost twice the rate of Bush
got Papa Obama all this....

Of course Bush unemployment averages were lower, came quicker and cost less

No doubt a sure "win" for Progressives

Run with it

"We spent twice as much and got worse results"
:eusa_whistle:

Despite a population increase…

Hey if Papa Obama can get enough people to stop looking for work and on Food Stamps

that unemployment will really drop then...

This reminds me of when the French gov't wanted to increase full time employment
so they called the full time work week 36 hours instead of 40
