Just what we wanted to hear! nothing would make me happier than seeing our Gripens in Ukrainan hands. The Gripen was designed for just this: fighting the Muscovites in contested airspace. In many ways it is probably better than the F16, but there are much fewer of them.

Ukrainians already undergoing training on Swedish-made Gripen jets , — Zelenskyy The Ukrainian pilots have begun participating in an introductory training exercise on Swedish-made JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, which Kyiv hopes to receive."Gripen aircraft are the pride of Sweden. I firmly believe that Gripen can make our freedom much more secure. Gripen test flights involving Ukrainians, our pilots, have begun," said Zelenskyy.
Gripen is the best choice since the aircraft can takeoff and land in very short lanes. And that for the constant under bombard Ukrainian infrastructure would be a good choice.The problem imo, is that the Sweden production capabilities of the Gripen is quite low at this time...

That's the main reason Ukraine wants F16s, not because they are the best, but they need a lot of fighters, and having a lot of the same model is easier to maintain.
