She picked the wrong person to mess with.

LONDON -- British media are reporting that Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is quitting her post following the scandal over lawmakers' expenses.

The BBC and Sky News reported Tuesday that Smith will resign, but did not say when or specify sources.

Smith has been criticized after she included pornographic movies ordered by her husband in an expenses claim. She would be the highest ranking official to resign amid the scandal.

She has also faced allegations that she finessed the housing allowance system to maximize the amount she received.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Downing Street office declined to comment on the reports. But Brown is expected to reshuffle his government ministers soon.

Her problems aren't going to end there. Michael Savage has filed a libel suit against her for 100,000 pounds ($162,000). With her resignation, she will have to pay for her own defense. Should be interesting.

Michael Wiener [Savage] takes full credit for her retirement after an interview he did with BBC. He made the mistake of playing the interview on his show. Trust me the interviewer was skeptical of Mike and he sucked at his own defense.
I listen to him some when I go shopping ... good for a laugh.

British libel law is a lot looser than US libel law. I don't know the details, (I am not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV) but I have seen several suits that resolved the plaintiff there that would have been laughed out of US courts.

I remember the case. She had no idea who he really was, she was grandstanding on the taxpayers dime.

And in the UK, the looser pays all the winners legal expenses.

She may be able to demonstrate no harm, which means no tort. He got a ratings boost from this, and he wasn't planning to go to England anyway.

Doesn't surprise me a bit that she turns out to be a thief.

I thought it was so weird that Wiener/Savage asked Sec. of State Clinton to intervene. He's called her Socialist, Communist, Fascist, and murderer in the past. I'm guessing she said "No".
Poor Michael is so confused ... he thinks because all those things are bad that they're all the same.

Seems to be some cause/effect confusion. Savage being kept out of the UK wasn't the reason she quit. She, like many other British Members of Parliament. has been caught up in a continuing scandal about parliamentary expenses.

The Newsmax story gets it right, the OP gets it wrong.

An important distinction.

She got in trouble using funds that were supposed to be used for constituent services to pay for her husband's porn subscription.

Which is so wrong on so many levels I can't begin to untangle them all.
