Trump's EPA Greenlights a Nasty Chemical. A Month Later, It Poisons a Bunch of Farmworkers.
"Anybody that was exposed, we encourage them to seek medical attention immediately," a California public health official stated.

On May 5, more than 50 farmworkers outside of Bakersfield, California, were exposed to a highly toxic pesticide that apparently drifted from a nearby field—at a high enough level that "twelve people reported symptoms of vomiting nausea and one person fainted," reports the television news station Kern Golden Empire. "An additional twelve workers did not show signs of any symptoms," the station reported. "However more than half of the farm workers left before medical aide arrived."

Public health authorities took the poisoning quite seriously. "Anybody that was exposed, that was here today, we encourage them to seek medical attention immediately. Don't wait. Particularly if you're suffering from any symptoms. Whether it's nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seek medical attention immediately," Michelle Corson, public relations officer at Kern County Public Health, said in an announcement to the TV station.

From wikipedia:

Chlorpyrifos - Wikipedia

Chlorpyrifos is moderately toxic to humans, and exposure has been linked to neurological effects, persistent developmental disorders and autoimmune disorders. Exposure during pregnancy retards the mental development of children, and most home use was banned in 2001 in the U.S.[6] In agriculture, it is "one of the most widely used organophosphate insecticides" in the United States, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and before being phased out for residential use was one of the most used residential insecticides.[7] On March 29, 2017, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt denied a petition to ban chlorpyrifos.[8]

While banned for home use, it has been allowed in agricultural settings for a long time now. I am expecting you to change the title of your post to reflect the relevant facts.

All the current EPA did was reject a call for banning its use in agriculture.

Let's see how they can spin chemicals proven to make people sick as being ok. Maybe they say dems liked it first so that's a good reason.

Why in the hell would they allow people to use that if its that harmful?

Let's see how they can spin chemicals proven to make people sick as being ok. Maybe they say dems liked it first so that's a good reason.

So we should ban the selling of Rubbing alcohol because is used incorrectly and drunk, it can get people sick?

Pesticides are dangerous chemicals, the key is proper application. In this case they fucked up the application.

You made a blanket idiotic statement and I called you on it.

Of course pesticides can make people sick, they can kill insects easily, them being harmful to humans isn't much of a stretch.

but you made the blanket statement of chemicals proven to make people sick being "OK"

Rubbing alcohol can make people sick if ingested. Should it be "ok" or not?

Chlorpyrifos was first registered for use in the United States in 1965 for control of foliage and soil-born insects.[7] The chemical became widely used in residential settings, on golf course turf, as a structural termite control agent, and in agricultural use. Most residential use has been phased out in the United States; however it remains a common agricultural insecticide.[7]

EPA estimated that between 1987 and 1998 about 21 million pounds of chlorpyrifos were annually used in the US.[7] In 2007, chlorpyrifos was the most commonly used organophosphate pesticide in the United States, with an estimated 8 to 11 million pounds applied, and the 14th most common agricultural pesticide ingredient overall in 2007 in the United States.[11]

So President Trump was president in 1965? Interesting...you lied AGAIN.

Chlorpyrifos - Wikipedia

EPA won't ban pesticide chlorpyrifos; is it safe? - CNN.com

Now I don't think dangerous pesticides should be used AT ALL but don't blame President Trump when the chemical was introduced in 1965!

Tell us all how this application was wrong? Because rubbing alcohol has to be swallowed. This chemical doesnt. So go one Mr Wizard.

Tell us all how the chemical proven poisonous isn't really poisonous after poisoning.

In this case the idiots probably didn't take into account the wind when applying the pesticide, which is why it ended up in another field and exposed the workers.

It actually is considered moderately poisonous to humans, but lethal to insects, which is why it is called a pesticide, and why we normally don't gargle with said pesticides.

So you don't know what happened you're just using "probably" as a cover for why the poison poisoned people?

I'm trying to understand your defense. It's not the poisons fault it's poison?

it's the fault of the people who probably didn't apply it properly. Pesticides are poisons by definition, but good luck doing modern large scale agriculture without them.

The main issue is the title of this thread makes people think this is something new and just introduced, but it's been around since 1965.

And it hasn't even been banned by California itself, likely because even those hippie idiots realize that chemicals like this are needed, and this chemical in question is probably less dangerous to use than the other available alternatives.

One more reason to grow your own vegetables.

Much rain here in Maryland.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, peppers, strawberries, etc.

The corn is local. Same with the fruits.

Going to be giving most of it away to family friends and neighbors.
