Trump to announce withdrawal of additional troops from Afghanistan & Iraq in coming days

In the wake of the reductions being announced by Trump in Afghanistan and Iraq, it’s worth reviewing his real record on “Endless Wars,” and the likelihood of changes in future foreign policy should he win (or lose) re-election. Here are excerpts from a fairly comprehensive & balanced assessment written by George Szamuely, published in May in RT:

“Trump failed to prove he’s a true anti-interventionist.
If he wins again, we might see MORE wars

“President Donald Trump, if he is re-elected in November and no longer fearing desertion of his anti-interventionist supporters, may well shed his remaining inhibitions against embarking on new military adventures.

“A Trump second term, particularly if it is hamstrung by Democrats controlling both houses of Congress, is likely to be defined by an appetite for military intervention....

“Trump has given very little evidence that he is wedded to any anti-interventionist principles. The same of course is true of ... former VP Joe Biden ... For countries that have been in the US crosshairs for years ... the outlook following the November election isn’t a happy one. One possibility is they will be confronting an emboldened Trump who, freed from the constraint of having to worry about losing supporters, will give full vent to his interventionist instincts. The other equally unappealing possibility is they will be confronting a Biden administration that will be filled with Obama retreads, committed to Samantha Power-style ‘humanitarian intervention’ and to avenging 2016 by seeking out confrontation with Russia.”

Sounds more like a conspiracy theory to me. Just more fear mongering from the left when they don't have anything of substance.

All talk and in time for the election, how convenient. Can you find me an article stating what you assume?

He has been talking about it since 2016 and has gotten very little support from either side.

The announcement is closely tied to the plan to increase the U.S. troop presence in Poland, a shift long-desired by Warsaw and Polish President Andrzej Duda. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss plans not yet announced, said the moves will cost “billions” and require construction at bases in the U.S. to accommodate the additional forces. The officials said that in the future other troops would rotate in and out of Europe.

Members of Trump’s own political party have criticized the troop move as a gift to Russia and a threat to U.S. national security. Twenty-two Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee fired back with a letter to Trump saying a reduced U.S. commitment to Europe’s defense would encourage Russian aggression and opportunism.

Russia's GDP routinely falls below that of the city of Tokyo. Only an idiot thinks Russia could wage war on the EU with any kind of success.

Regardless, the EU has (theoretically) over 1.5 million personnel, nearly 7,700 tanks, 2,450 aircraft (including helicopters), and nearly 550 warships and submarines on call.

The EU could defeat Russia on its own.
you're speaking to someone who feels facts are useless so she makes up her own in her own world.

fucking trolls.
A troll indeed, she ignores the corruption of Clinton and Obama, probably a paid troll for the DNC.
Israel need to fight their god damn wars
Indeed, just once I wish we could get a president who would not be a coward and stand up to them.im sick of living in the United States of Israel,I want our country back and want to live in the United States of fucking AMERICA.
I am working on my new song
Here is one verse

We don’t need no more Jewish wars
It feeds the rich and it buries the poor
You power hungry solders in a human grocery store

I believe Trump is sincere in wanting to bring all the troops home and have feeling the generals have been warning him of consequences.

Yeah, they lose lucrative defense industry jobs.
And Trump actually said that out loud

Then the president veered into talk of the military, taking aim at the Pentagon brass and separating them from the rank-and-file troops.
"I'm not saying the military is in love with me; the soldiers are. The top people in the Pentagon probably aren't because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of these wonderful companies that make the bombs and [make] the places and make everything else stay happy."

Or...
Radical left of the USA is far more evil and sinister than Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Hitler
Or...
No more Jewish wars !!
You see, there are real “conspiracy theories” and “fear mongering” rightists.

And while we’re at it, let’s recall we originally went into Afghanistan supporting BinLaden and “Islamic Freedom fighters” and for geo-political reasons to keep the Russians out in the Cold War. Of course later it seemed a great place to occupy, to test out our new drone fighting techniques, making the MIC rich. Or are those just other “leftwing conspiracy theories”?

As expected, and as I predicted, Trump is planning to withdraw some troops from Afghanistan (and Iraq) in the run-up to the election. The Democratic rank and file should support these moves, but it is likely some DNC leaders will stupidly oppose them simply because Trump is initiating them. Of course even after these troop draw-downs Trump’s bellicose attitude and support for a strong military overseas will mean these “endless wars” continue, and these troops will probably just be moved to Asia and the South China Sea. The overall troop presence in the greater Middle East, however — even after these withdrawals — will almost certainly remain at the same high (or higher) levels as when Trump first took office.

Thanks, good news. Get them home. I'm a Vietnam era vet myself, volunteered.
Me too, but in my case I was going one way or another so volunteering just gave me a little theoretical control of my destiny. It didn’t work out that way in the end, but I tried.

He'll just move them some place else. It's what he's historically done. They won't be coming home any time soon.

It's all talk.
At least in Poland they won’t be getting shot an and the Poles will be grateful to them. It doesn’t cost much more to station troops in a peaceful country overseas than on a base in the USA.

which side is saying Trump is the death of us all?

fuck you and your projections.

Such idiotic opposing agendas are found on both (all) sides of the fence. I would list the examples but I haven't got all day to do it and I am sure you haven't got the whole day to read them all.

That was some kind of deflection, I stand by my post no matter how much you try and deflect away from the truth, Thomas. CONSPIRACY THEORY

Trump to announce withdrawal of additional troops from Afghanistan & Iraq in coming days

Considering the fact he has added over 20,000 additional troops since being elected, and promising then to withdraw them, it certainly wouldn't be out of bounds to view this latest move as nothing more than a political stunt.

Trump hasn't done anything to support the troops since his election, and has put more of their lives in danger, and his ignoring the bounty placed on them by Russia, has not been forgotten, or will be.

The only words that mean anything to Trump regarding the troops are " The only people there are suckers and losers "

Iran is the main world sponsor of World Terrorism next to the Democratic Party .
We should supply Israel with every means necessary but they have to Fight

It is true Trump increased by a third troop levels in the Middle East after ripping up the international JCPOA framework with Iran, then illegally assassinating its most popular national hero General Soleimani (and others) at Baghdad Airport. Those troop levels, even after assumed withdrawals from Afghanistan and Iraq, will likely still be considerably higher than when he was elected in 2016.

But the main point is Trump is not changing our “policeman of the world” program for global domination. He is if anything increasing the likelihood of war even as he plays up (for his base) some verbal criticism of the MIC.

As for any Russian “bounty” on U.S. troops in Afghanistan, that is just pure old-fashioned “liberal” anti-Russian propaganda. You DNC Democrats make yourself look ridiculous playing that sort of game, “supporting our troops” instead of getting them out of places they do not belong, trying to look tougher than Trump. You only end up making Trump look good in comparison.

You criticize Trump for “not caring” enough for our professional armed forces, but don’t criticize him for keeping them in Syria and Iraq to “keep the oil.” You say nothing about his forcing economic deals overseas using economic and military threats (imperialism). The DNC is basically for maintaining murderous sanctions on Syria, so that country cannot rebuild itself and have its millions of refugees return.

P.S. Quasar44 is not even worth commenting on.
