Everyone is raving about the relief efforts being undertaken for Hurricane Harvey. This monster storm is setting records in total rainfall and destruction both. So also setting records is the response and rescue efforts. These have been on the local, state , and federal levels.

US Coast Guard, and US Navy helicopters have been rescuing people at a pace never seen before. I haven’t heard what the Trump bashers have been saying on this, but they’d be wise to keep quiet. They can only show themselves as the boys who cried wolf, and make further fools of themselves.

This is yet another feather in the president’s “Make America Great Again” cap after his successes in forcing North Korea to back down about attacking Guam, and getting his Muslim countries ban approved by the Supreme Court. Also, having illegal immigration plummet to lowest levels in many years, and registering a 3% GDP gain (best in the past 3 years), for the 2nd quarter of 2017, among other US advances.

The Coast Guard responds to search and rescue requests in response to Hurricane Harvey in the greater Houston Metro Area Aug. 28, 2017. The Coast Guard is working closely with all federal, state and local emergency operation centers and has established incident command posts to manage search and rescue operations. And the scale of the operation is much larger than most realize. The Coast Guard, for example, is sending personnel in from as far away as Miami.

USA is in reliable hands of Mr President, I'm happy to see that. I wish Congress didn't hobble him so badly, he barely is able to do what he wants. Unfortunately, there are so many powerful crooked clowns who just hate (and are afraid of!) to allow him to make America great again.

Yup. They're scared to death of him. Especially the RINOs

How sad is it that it's a "relief" and a "cause for celebration" when the government actually works as it should. :/

Thank you President Trump. Ya'll religious folks need to pray that others recognize the good and we can keep the trend going the proper direction.

What? Hell, no, he gets no "feather." The actual disaster recovery and relief efforts largely operate on "autopilot."

As for the "feather in the cap" thing....Well, in my world, the world of leaders, nobody gets "feathers" for doing what, given their position/role, is expected of them. "Feathers" are given for exceeding the expectations attendant to the role/position one has.

The office of the POTUS is a role for which all expectations bars are higher than all others, and at no point in his presidency to date has Trump exceeded the bars of his office. The best I can say is that, regarding "Harvey," he's come sort of close to the bar. That sincerely said, of the bars attendant to the office of the POTUS, the ones pertinent to what a POTUS is expected to do are quite low; they amount to not screwing up, as opposed to actively doing something.

One thing I find surprising is that Trump, AFAIK, has yet to dispatch the 82nd Airborne or other military reserve units to Texas.

  • Army Support During Katrina Disaster -- Read this to get a sense of all the things Pres. Bush set in motion in advance Katrina. Media-hound that he is, Trump didn't say a word about preparation for disaster relief efforts even though Harvey did not sneak-up on Texas.
    • 5,000 paratroopers of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. were dispatched to assist in the effort.
  • DONALD RUMSFELD: The reality was that the first responders at the state and local level were, in large measure, victims themselves, and, as such, somewhat overwhelmed by the catastrophic nature of the Hurricane Katrina and the floods that followed. So we had a situation that was distinctively different than the normal situation, which works pretty well for a normal natural disaster or even a normal manmade disaster. And the president’s point was that there are some things that are of sufficient magnitude that they require something to substitute for the overwhelmed first responders at the state and local level. And that is the issue that he’s thinking about.

Even though the U.S. military is prohibited from serving in a law enforcement role, it can serve in a life saving role. Rumsfeld, like Bush and like myriad other capable leaders recognized that rules exist to guide leaders in ordinary situations, but when extraordinary ones present themselves, the best leaders do not allow rules to proscribe sagacious action and initiative.

Saving lives in the wake of a massive hurricane is an extraordinary situation for which apt leaders think about what's going to needed before the event, and then one stages them so they are ready the instant it becomes possible to deploy them.

Case in point. Immediately following the hurricane, I saw multiple news reports wherein officials were asking people to bring boats to help with the rescue effort. What could a proactive POTUS have done? Well, among other things, ordered the military to ship a bunch of boats -- rigid hull inflatable landing craft would have been just the thing -- and people to man them to the area. After all, 26" to 40" of rain was predicted for the storm.

Trump may love his generals, but as goes his "Harvey response," he's used his military resources with no more prudence than would a buck private.

Say what you want, but I have not seen anything from Trump that resembles the type of proactive initiative and perspicacity that I'd expect of a CEO, COO, EVP, SVP or even line manager, let alone a POTUS. His handling of Harvey shows, that true to form, Trump does not get ahead of things, but rather that he waits for them to happen and then reacts, even in instances like a hurricane, where he had all the opportunity in the world to get ahead of it. Instead, only today is the Pentagon mobilizing and showing up in Texas.

Lots of words wasted to spout :bsflag: And we've heard it all before. Ho hum. Yawn ****

Great Job, Mr President. Keep up the GOOD work.

Yet another big success.
