The histories I read showed the bombing didn't cause the Germans to surrender, the soldiers on the ground did. What do your histories say?

Bombing of cities seems a lot more extreme than a gas price increase. If bombing didn't convince the Germans to abandon Hitler what chance does a gas price hike have?
