Trump aims to "help" farmers who are hurt by China's tariff retaliations

Its rather amazing how this idiot-in-chief keeps screwing up......and his moronic base blindly cheers him on as robotic cult members.

Trump placed tariffs on China (as well as to the EU and our neighbors)

China, of course retaliates by imposing tariffs on U.S. goods, especially on SOY BEANS

China then urges Chinese farmers to grow more domestic soy beans and turns to countries likes Brazil as potential sources of such a commodity........A fact that will almost forever kill our soy bean exports to the lucrative Chinese market.

Soooooo, pressured by red state republicans, what does Trump do???

Well, my fellow Americans, we will now begin to subsidize soy bean farmers for their heavy losses in perpetuity......Nice, huh???

Yes, the Trump administration is considering "buying" the soybeans that China will NO longer want from us..........Let's all enjoy a tall glass of soy milk....It will soon be a heck of a lot cheaper....but, of course, we will then piss off dairy farmers.

(hope we will enjoy those "huge" tax cuts as our debt skyrockets because, among other screw ups because of the orange idiot, we need to have yet another expense to subsidize our own farmers.)

Trump’s Trade War Is Hurting Red-State Farmers—and Ripping Their GOP Senators Apart
Lawmakers disagree about using government subsidies to quell tariff woes.

China has been stealing US technology for years, manipulating their currency and ripping off American businesses and you're worried about a few bloody soya beans?? WTF are you; a bloody soy boy or something??

Greg

China would still be an economic backwater if it weren't for the massive investment from American and other Western financiers back in the 1990s and early 2000s. They abondoned the American worker for cheap Chinese labor.

If it weren't for that, all the copyright infrigement and currency manipulation would be just a fart in a breeze.

But let us not hold the private sector responsible for anything!

I must still fight the belief that farmers receive heavy subsidies. Again, farmers put their own money into crop insurance. I'm not saying there is no government aid, but saying that farming is massively subsidized is in my opinion slanderous.

At the time our Constitution was ratified, 90 percent of Americans were in farming.

Even a century ago, more than half of all Americans were in farming.

Thanks to technology, less than two percent of Americans are in farming today, and they are producing more food than ever before.

As machinery made it possible to farm more land with less labor, the size of farms grew while the number of farms shrank.

The same is happening in other labor-intensive fields, such as manufacturing. 80 percent of the manufacturing jobs which have been lost since the nineties were made obsolete by technology. They did not go to China or anywhere else. They are simply gone, and they are never coming back.

Politicians who promise to bring back those jobs are lying fucking assholes taking advantage of desperate people.

Assholes like Trump. He is not going to save coal jobs or manufacturing jobs. For every job his protectionist tariffs "create", he will cause the destruction of many others.

Upon the collapse of the Soviet Union, other centrally planned economies like China and India saw the writing on the wall, and they began the movement toward market economies.

This introduced two billion workers into the global labor market. That's a fucking YUGE egg moving through the snake. As those two billion workers entered the competition for work on the world stage, global wages were suppressed, and will remain suppressed until those two billion workers achieve a level of prosperity which will convert their economies from export economies into consumer economies.

It's tough for the rest of us in the meantime, but we should be pleased to see these people joining the capitalist universe and enjoying a standard of living which would never have been achieved in their socialistic/communistic societies.

In the long run, we will all be better off.

It's all water under the bridge at this point, but the West should have allowed investment in China at a much slower pace. The damage has been done.

I doubt that we will be better off. Trump's tarriff aren't going to stop China, but they sure will hurt the U.S. To little too late.

Now the more we isolate ourselves the further China will get ahead of us. The cat's out of the bag.

Leaving TPP was a BIG mistake.

Anecdotes don't mean shit.

The farm industry is subsidized to the tune of $20 billion a year. Government gifts. That's a fact.

Where the hell are these 'gifts' going?

The federal government spends more than $20 billion a year on subsidies for farm businesses. About 39 percent of the nation's 2.1 million farms receive subsidies, with the lion's share of the handouts going to the largest producers of corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, and rice.

Agricultural Subsidies

I read the article. The author mainly seems to target crop insurance. It claims that the government pays 60% of crop insurance. So aid on crop insurance is heavy subsidies that prop up the farm industry? The author also said that farming is no riskier than any other industry. You ever hear of Nike looking out the window praying for rain, or about insects or disease? I'm not disputing the aid to crop insurance, but I don't think this rates as farmers sucking on the government teet or having a government sugar momma. The left clearly implies this is the case. I also read about some of the shadier things like market protection, and I agree that that stuff is shady as hell, but it appeared in the article as a pork project afterthought, and the main target was crop insurance.
