Thats a real shame. James Bond stopped there and Michael Corleone fought over it. Plenty O Toole was famously thrown in its pool.

America seems to be a very disposable society. There would be riots over here if this was proposed. Dont you have any heritage bodies to protect these things ?

the tropicana is a brick and glass architecural nothing for historical preservation. about 50 years ago i stayed at the tropicana for about 6 weeks on a blackjack winning streak. i eventually borrowed enough money for petrol home and swore never to return.

The site will eventually house the new baseball stadium for the relocating Oakland Athletics.

The Trop's glory days were long behind it. It is sad but everything changes, everything evolves...or gets swallowed up and dies.
I used to like frequenting a lot of the smaller casinos like O'Shea's and Bill's. Gave the strip some flavor and ambience.

it was a casino and hotel, not some great historical landmark.

And it is often cheaper to tear down and start from scratch than to try and renovate such an old structure

it's 67.

old enough to retire.

Heard last night that they’re going to put a baseball stadium for the Las Vegas “A”s in its place.

Gather yourself ,Tommy. This is a casino that has a date with the wrecking ball.

It isn't like they are planning to fill in the Grand Fucking Canyon to build a golf course or something

asbestos remediation prices many of these mid century modern commercial buildings into oblivion. insufficient electrical, hvac, accessibility, and safety systems are also cheaper in new construction.

OP, you know when I first saw the name "Tropicana" I THOUGHT you were talking about the orange juice brand...

I spent some time there. Some years ago a very dear friend of mine was the events coordinator at the Tropicana. Terri was her name. She was somewhat famous at another casino for multiple royal flushes and also known as the mother who gave birth to the "Miracle Baby"
Terri had stage 4 cancer and went into remission after being treated with some medicine derived from the bark of a tree found in Oregon. She got pregnant and had a perfect little baby girl. Only a few months later the cancer came back and Terri died.

A casino and hotel can't be renovated into a sports stadium.

I bet age has a lot to do with this. If you are over 40 you are more likely to see this as the loss of a Vegas staple. One of the last places to go for an authentic Vegas experience. If you are under 40 you are more likely to see a dated place to stay with a funny old smell. The services are dated and the wifi slow.

Its a Super 8 in an a prom dress nothing to cry about
