Top U.S. general: Soleimani was planning 'campaign' of violence against U.S.

Very good. We have Donald Trump in charge of the military.

I'm glad you recognize that.
The whole world recognizes it. Everyone knows nobody but the mentally ill, amoral, unethical, ignorant, incurious trump would have issued such an order.

The plan is to apply economic pressure through sanctions on Iran to force it to entirely give up its nuclear weapons ambitions in a verifiable way and to give up its imperialistic adventures.
That makes no sense, my man. That does not explain the assassination, or the plan moving forward, etc.. Did you forget what you started a thread about?

By the way, if that's the plan... well done, trump!

Soliemani's execution was for force protection. Iran had been escalating its attacks against Americans for months, and they finally killed an American and that cannot be allowed to stand or it endangers all Americans in the ME. The President ordered an emphatic response and we bombed several of the bases of the group responsible for the lethal rocket attack. They then attacked our embassy, sending the message that they thought they could do anything they wanted and we couldn't stop them. Even putting aside Soliemani's long resume of murder and destruction all across the ME, he was the leader of the militias that had been attacking the US. He had been directly responsible for attacks against America for twenty years. If the purpose was to tell Iran that they cannot attack Americans with impunity, there was no one more appropriate to execute. This was entirely about force protection and not about the President's policy about Iran.

Yup. Trump's decisive action likely prevented an escalation. As head of the Qods Force, Soleimani has been behind some of the most egregious attacks and plots against the U.S., Israel, Iraq, and a host of other western and Middle Eastern countries over the past three decades. Soleimani’s stamp is seen on insurgencies in Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen, and even in Afghanistan.

Muhandis has been on the U.S. military and intelligence services’ radar for well over a decade. The Treasury Department designated Muhandis and the Hezbollah Brigades under Executive Order 13438 (Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq) on July 2, 2009. That same day, the Department of State also designated the Hezbollah Brigades as a terrorist entity under Executive Order 13224. Muhandis commands the Hezbollah Brigades.

Muhandis was an adviser to Soleimani and a member of Qods Force. As a senior Qods Force operative, Muhandis created a group of trainers to support the pro-Iranian Shiite militia, such as the Asaib al Haq and Hezbollah Brigades. “The groups received training in guerilla warfare, handling bombs and explosives, and employing weapons–to include missiles, mortars, and sniper rifles,” Treasury noted back in July 2009.

Muhandis established smuggling networks to funnel weapons to what was then known as the Mahdi Army Special Groups. These Special Groups later formed the nucleus of the PMF.

He has supplied the deadly armor-piercing explosively formed projectiles, a signature Iranian weapon, as well as rockets, mortars, and sniper and assault rifles to these groups. He directly aided the Mahdi Army during the Spring 2008 uprising against Iraqi and U.S. forces in Sadr City in Baghdad, as well as in Maysan province and in Basrah.

His terrorism career ended at the Baghdad airport.

It actually is a very moral and just order. The guy was responsible for over 600 American deaths, not to mention the thousands of others over the past 20+ years.

To think such an order is amoral is the thought process of a coward but more important than that. It is the though process of someone whose hatred of Trump is greater than his love of the United States.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States had “clear, unambiguous” intelligence that a top Iranian general was planning a significant campaign of violence against the United States when it decided to strike him, the top U.S. general said on Friday, warning Soleimani’s plots “might still happen.”

Army General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a small group of reporters “we fully comprehend the strategic consequences” associated with the strike against Qassem Soleimani, Tehran’s most prominent military commander.

But he said the risk of inaction exceeded the risk that killing him might dramatically escalate tensions with Tehran.

“Is there risk? Damn right, there’s risk. But we’re working to mitigate it,” Milley said from his Pentagon office.

So the swarms of drooling Democrats who are claiming the President had no objective reason to issue the order to kill Solemani are clearly wrong. The Pentagon had concluded on the basis of clear evidence of Soleimani's plans that the risk of not killing him was greater than the risk of killing him. To Pelosi and Schumer this will sound like a clear reason to impeach the President again.
You’re really gonna believe the deep state intel agencies?! Since when do they get anything right?

They got Trump colluding with the Russians, right?

Oh yeah? Funny...every expert on the matter agrees that the attacks will now escalate.

So I am curious by what stretch of illogic and fantasy you come to this conclusion.
Every expert believes Iran will make some effort to retaliate, but there is a lot of doubt about whether they will risk an even greater retaliation from the US. We got to this point because Iran was already escalating its attacks on US bases and personnel. There were over a dozen rocket attacks on US bases and Iraqi bases on which Americans were working before the Iranian backed militia finally killed one American and wounded several others. The Swiss embassy in Tehran represents US interests there and the President had already sent a message to the Iranian government through the Swiss that there would be severe consequences if any Americans were killed. The execution of Soliemani sent the message that no one and nothing in Iran is safe if they continue to attack Americans, and the President underlined that point by promising 52 sites in Iran will be destroyed if Iran attacks Americans in response to the execution of Soliemani. If they are rational, they will not attempt a massive retaliation.

The bottom line is doing nothing in response to escalating Iranian attacks led to the death of one American and the wounding of several others, so we had to respond, but what's the point of retaliation if not to make the cost of killing Americans too high for them to bear? Executing Soliemani and notifying the Iranian leadership that any retaliation from them for Soleimani will result in a massive US attack inside of Iran, the first attack inside of Iran since the end of the war with Iraq. The clear US message to the Iranian leadership is that all US responses will be disproportionate to the Iranian provocations, so if their leaders area at all rational, they will be very cautious about retaliating.

It is Iran's oil. Iran offered the oil to the British at the prevailing market rate, but the Brits wanted a steep discount, and continuous control of Iran's oil industry; the living and working conditions of its Iranian workers were extremely poor; it refused to allow Iranians a greater voice in the company's management; and it denied them the right to audit the company's books.
Would you make such a deal with the Brits for YOUR oil???? I think not!
Iran had already made their deals with British Petroleum when Mossedegh just decided to steal all the infrastructure and work the Brits had put in and take it all for Iran.

Too bad your evidence is all anecdotal. Nice story, though.
