WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States had “clear, unambiguous” intelligence that a top Iranian general was planning a significant campaign of violence against the United States when it decided to strike him, the top U.S. general said on Friday, warning Soleimani’s plots “might still happen.”

Army General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a small group of reporters “we fully comprehend the strategic consequences” associated with the strike against Qassem Soleimani, Tehran’s most prominent military commander.

But he said the risk of inaction exceeded the risk that killing him might dramatically escalate tensions with Tehran.

“Is there risk? Damn right, there’s risk. But we’re working to mitigate it,” Milley said from his Pentagon office.

So the swarms of drooling Democrats who are claiming the President had no objective reason to issue the order to kill Solemani are clearly wrong. The Pentagon had concluded on the basis of clear evidence of Soleimani's plans that the risk of not killing him was greater than the risk of killing him. To Pelosi and Schumer this will sound like a clear reason to impeach the President again.

You’re really gonna believe the deep state intel agencies?! Since when do they get anything right?

U.S. Generals are making plans for campaigns of violence against Iran, right? And they have been for decades? Right?

We killed Admiral Yamamoto for the same reason. He was Japan's best military leader during World War II, planner of the Pearl Harbor attack.

No, not right. The Pentagon makes plans to defend American interests in all scenarios.

What do you think other countries do?
Which countries? Iran is involved in trying to construct an empire that extends from the Mediterranean through Iraq and later to acquire the smalle Gulf countries and Yemen. To do this, Iran tries to find Arabs to betray their own countries and fight for Iran such as Hezbollah and virtually all the Iran backed militia in Syria and Iraq. That was Soleimani's job, to put together these networks of Arabs to help build the Iranian empire. So Iran's military planning is very, very different from the Pentagon's.

You just described a bunch of Middle Eastern nonsense that we should never have been involved in. I bet you voted twice for Dubya.

Who else are you gonna believe? No talking head on TV has access to the intel they do.

If Iran would play ball, they would acquire a favored nation status with the United States. They are still pizzed about our interference from after Word War 2. At some point it becomes detrimental. Even to the offended, for the past can not be changed..

U.S. Generals are making plans for campaigns of violence against Iran, right? And they have been for decades? Right?
With the important difference being that these were offensive plans not held as contingencies, but meant to be executed over the next few months.

You do understand that very clear and all important difference, right?

Which is totally fine. There is a reason our military is under civilian control, and a reason we vote for those who make the decisions.

Furthermore, you also seem to have strong opinions about it. What is your security clearance level, agent?
