Top Ten Reagan Quotes, IMO

At the time they were fighting the Russians, trying to kick them out of Afghanistan. They probably looked like it at the time.

So what? Those "moral equivalents to america's founding fathers" attacked us on 9/11. If it wasn't for ol' ronnie, the taliban likely wouldn't even exist today.

Yes, ole RR gave them everything they wanted. My quote from Reagan: "I don't remember".

Then there's always this:

"In 1976 I was impressed with Ronald Reagan’s program and was one of the four members of Congress who endorsed his candidacy. In 1980, unlike other Republican office holders in Texas, I again supported our President in his efforts.

Since 1981, however, I have gradually and steadily grown weary of the Republican Party’s efforts to reduce the size of the federal government. Since then Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party have given us skyrocketing deficits, and astoundingly a doubled national debt. How is it that the party of balanced budgets, with control of the White House and Senate, accumulated red ink greater than all previous administrations put together?"

"Tax revenues are up 59 percent since 1980. Because of our economic growth? No. During Carter’s four years, we had growth of 37.2 percent; Reagan’s five years have given us 30.7 percent. The new revenues are due to four giant Republican tax increases since 1981. "

"All republicans rightly chastised Carter for his $38 billion deficit. But they ignore or even defend deficits of $220 billion, as government spending has grown 10.4 percent per year since Reagan took office, while the federal payroll has zoomed by a quarter of a million bureaucrats. "

"Despite the Supply-Sider-Keynesian claim that "deficits don't matter,"the debt presents a grave threat to our country. Thanks to the President and Republican Party, we have lost the chance to reduce the deficit and the spending in a non-crisis fashion. Even worse, big government has been legitimized in a way the Democrats never could have accomplished. It was tragic to listen to Ronald Reagan on the 1986 campaign trail bragging about his high spending on farm subsidies, welfare, warfare, etc., in his futile effort to hold on to control of the Senate."

"Instead of cutting some of the immeasurable waste in the Department of Defense, it has gotten worse, with the inevitable result that we are less secure today. Reagan's foreign aid expenditures exceed Eisenhower's, Kennedy's, Johnson's, Nixon's, Ford's, and Carter's put together. Foreign intervention has exploded since 1980. Only an end to military welfare for foreign governments plus a curtailment of our unconstitutional commitments abroad will enable us really to defend ourselves and solve our financial problems. "

"Under the guise of attacking drug use and money laundering, the Republican Administration has systematically attacked personal and financial privacy. The effect has been to victimize innocent Americans who wish to conduct their private lives without government snooping. (Should people really be put on a suspected drug dealer list because they transfer $3,000 at one time?) Reagan's urine testing of Americans without probable cause is a clear violation of our civil liberties, as are his proposals for extensive "lie detector" tests. "

"Knowing this administration's record, I wasn't surprised by its Libyan disinformation campaign, Israeli-Iranian arms-for-hostages swap, or illegal funding of the Contras. All this has contributed to my disenchantment with the Republican Party, and helped me make up my mind. "

"I want to totally disassociate myself from the policies that have given us unprecedented deficits, massive monetary inflation, indiscriminate military spending, an irrational and unconstitutional foreign policy, zooming foreign aid, the exaltation of international banking, and the attack on our personal liberties and privacy. "

Wow!!!!

I see the liberal jumped in to bash Reagan, in what would otherwise be a fun thread.

Liberals are just boring. They have zero sense of humor.

SAM DONALDSON: Mr. President, in talking about the continuing recession tonight, you have blamed mistakes of the past and you have blamed the congress. Does any of the blame belong to you?

PRESIDENT REAGAN: Yes, because for many years I was a Democrat.

"I have only one thing to say to the tax increasers: Go ahead, make my day." -threatening to veto tax-increase legislation after getting his record tax cut to date in 1981. He ultimately followed with two tax increases, though declined to go any further.

"Well, I learned a lot....I went down to (Latin America) to find out from them and (learn) their views. You'd be surprised. They're all individual countries"

"I don't know. I've never played a governor." -asked by a reporter in 1966 what kind of governor he would be

"Facts are stupid things." -at the 1988 Republican National Convention, attempting to quote John Adams, who said, "Facts are stubborn things"

Reagan, ever the actor, carried his quotes around on three by five cards and I suppose he looked at them at the apropos time ready to let one go. I wonder who created the quotes? Some of the quotes are quite good and it was too bad governments could not be run on quotes. Reagan tripled the debt, enlarged the government, and got into Iran Contra, and the quotes didn't seem to help.

Those were reference notes for use in speeches, which shows he did at least some of his own reading and research.

At least he didnt have to stick to the script off of a teleprompter.

Yep, Reagan had to compromise to be an effective leader, something Paul has never learned and why he has never risen to an office higher than Federal Rep.

How is stating the truth suddenly "bashing"? Wow..............................

Liberals wouldnt know the Truth if it bit them in the ass.

Hell, most of them dont believe in the concept of objective Truth anyway, so what the fuck are you talking about?

Do you see the butthurt from Ronnie aiding the Afghans against the USSR? Their beloved USSR!

Lol, yeah, anything Reagan did to push the SA toward liberty was applaudable, but dont fuck with the Commie Workers Paradise! Oh, noes! Thats not fair!

lol, fucking assholes.

But conservatives have turned Fast and Furious into a conspiracy by the administration to impose stricter gun control laws, even there is no evidence of it.

There is plenty of evidence of it in Issa intercepted emails, and it was from the beginning a conspiracy to break national law and Mexican law and international (the last one I dont give a fuck about, but I just thought I would throw that in there like some prosecutorial asswipe anyway, lol.)

Supporting the Taliban was a mistake.

REagan did not support the Taliban, lying POS.

Fast and Furious was a mistake.

No, F&F is a murderous criminal conspiracy.

The Iran Contra was a mistake.

No, it was not; it wasnt even government funds being used, it was all Secords money from the get-go.

Look up MUJAHIDEEN, that was the term used by the Taliban when Ronnie R. was spending us INTO the 21st century.

Reagan said he was going to toss the USSR onto the ash heap of history, and he did it.

Then again Obama said he was going to toss the USA onto the same ash heap and he's well on his way

So you're saying that Romney was full of shit when he claimed they were our number one enemy?
