I thought Obama said he's been in charge "since day one"?

You are quite right.

Ladies and gentlemen - there is no other way to describe what has been shown regarding Obama during this crisis. He has proven himself incapable of actually leading.

Is it any accident that we have had more terrorist attempts, more Afghan deaths, more rogue nations becoming increasingly belligerent, in recent months?

Obama is weak, and from weakness follows great danger.

I pray someone is able to forumulate a plan to stop the leak soon - but great damage has already been done in the weeks since it began, and those in the world who wish to do this country harm are now greatly emboldened by the sheer magnitude of Obama's incompetence and indiference.

Lord help us...

I don't think the Lord has much use for whining liars.

According to pretty much all major religions, God has 'use' for all of of us. Just pointing out the damned obvious to the terminally stupid.

Yeah, this is obviously bad and it looks like it's going to get much worse, too.

I cannot even begin to imagine what a mess this is going to make of the Gulf wetlands and shoreline.

Those fragile ecosystems are going to become a wasteland.

And since they're the spawning ground for so many species both of fish and fowl, this disaster is going to radically alter the entire ecosystem in the Gulf.

I have no idea what value mankind puts on such things, nor do I much care, either.

BP just ruined a significant part of the globe because they were too fucking cheap to take every precaution they could.

So much for the theirory of the intelligence of the invisible hand of the market, folks.

Events like this inform us why having regulations (and governments that enforce them) are absolutely necessary to maintaining one's civilization.

BP ought to be put down like the a rabid dog

True, he wouldn't have wasted his time to make you if he didn't.

Yep. Destroying BP is really gonna solve it. Brilliant analysis. Seriously, you should volunteer your services to solve this crisis.

i think a company that ignores safety regs...and allows this to happen all in the name of getting money faster...should be put down like a rabid dog....cause that is what it is....look at the coastlands...marshes and the wildlife...you are letting them be put down like a rabid dog but defending the source...damn i guess and paul are in syn

Sorry...not buying te anti-corporate rant....there were regulations in place but the regulatory body chose the meth pipe and porn over their responsibility. There's enough blame to go around to everyone...this shouldn't be used as an excuse for the government to take over another industry.

Everything besides the relieve thing they're drilling is going to fail. I expect half the godforsaken gulf of Mexico will be dead by the time that is ready.

I agree with you. The currents and the hurricane season will do us in. Bye-bye Florida Keys and wait until Cancun and Cozumel start seeing oil show up there later this summer.

Bullshit. That's US oil on US territory and belongs to the US citizens. When are you dumb fucking brainwashed crapitalists going to figure that out.
BP makes billions. The tootheless fuckwads working the rigs make chump change and you pay these corporations out the ass for your fuels.
A gallon of gas in Venezuela is under 15 cents.

So what...you want a communist government with massive government subsidies paid to the petroleum industry just so YOU can have 15 cent a gallon gas?
Renounce your citizenship and MOVE TO VENEZUELA DOUCHEBAG!!!!BYE BYE!!!!!!!!!

I think Scripps or Woods Hole would have submersibles capable of going down there and using their robotic arms to install a fix. Hell, they've gone down to the bottom of ocean trenches in the Pacific - they could do this.

I think that's already in the works....the latest plan is to cut the pipe at the wellhead and install a valve. Remember "The Hell Fighters" with John Wayne? After they blew out the fires they always installed valves and then closed them off...I think they are going to try something simular here with the installation of a valve on the leftover pipe.

Have you anything other that idiocy to post? We have just succeeded in destroying one of the richest ecologys on this planet. One that has supplied this nation with the majority of it's seafood.

The US Government has no resources at all to deal with this kind of disaster. Indeed, the only people that do are the oil companies. All our President can do is try to ramp up the efforts to deal with the oil as it makes landfall. And keep the pressure on BP to cap that well.

When the well is capped, then we can address whether offshore drilling should be allowed at all. And how much of the damages can be paid by a new tax on all oil coming into the US. For BP is not going to by able to cover this.

In all of human history, this is the first and only time hydrocarbons have vented from the planets oceans

Amazing.

Simply amazing.

hydrocarbons have vented from the planets oceans

Do you live on Mars? The oil is not venting. It is pumping over 20,000 barrels of crude and gas into the Gulf. :cuckoo:

Here's a run down of Frank's posts, which reflect the daily talking points from the GOP.

Obama hasn't done enough.
Obama is interfering and should get out of the way.
It's just a little spill, the ocean will absorb it and melt it away.
Who cares about fish, anyway?

BP's Latest Update on Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill - 29 May

The Government, together with BP, have therefore decided to move to the next step in the subsea operations, the deployment of the Lower Marine Riser Package (LMRP) Cap Containment System.

The operational plan first involves cutting and then removing the damaged riser from the top of the failed Blow-Out Preventer (BOP) to leave a cleanly-cut pipe at the top of the BOP’s LMRP. The cap is designed to be connected to a riser from the Discoverer Enterprise drillship and placed over the LMRP with the intention of capturing most of the oil and gas flowing from the well. The LMRP cap is already on site and it is currently anticipated that it will be connected in about four days.

This operation has not been previously carried out in 5,000 feet of water and the successful deployment of the containment system cannot be assured.

Drilling of the first relief well continues and is currently at 12,090 feet. Drilling of the second relief well is temporarily suspended and is expected to recommence shortly from 8,576 feet.

David Brooks did an excellant opinion article on the spill in todays Oregonian.

What I see is that we have been treating risks inappropriatly. The chances that a fighter pilot takes to learn his craft are entirely inappropriate for someone learning toe fly a 747. Chances taken in the Gulf that resulted in this catastrophe were completely inapropriate given the difficulty of reacting to a disaster.

Once again, we come back to a sane measurement of risk and reward. From here on it, we had better learn this lesson well. Sometimes errors are irreversable. Whether the destruction of one of the richest ecologys on earth by trying to save a few pennies, or creating an adrupt climate change by the burning of fossil fuels.

Chances taken in the Gulf that resulted in this catastrophe were completely inapropriate given the difficulty of reacting to a disaster.

Love that hindsight. So I can safely assume every other well drilling in the gulf is taking appropriate chances because they are NOT leaking ? :cuckoo:

Duck, it wasn't hindsight. As more information comes out about the period just before the explosion, we are learning that shortcuts were taken that were known to be dangerous.

The first point is that a blowout valve, costing half a million, that is requiered by just about every other nation on earth, other than ours, wasn't used. Second, the blowout valve that is down there was known to be defective, and the crew on the drilling platform had prints for an earlier version, but not that one. Third, in order to speed up the operation, they withdrew the drilling mud before the concrete was set.

Those are know chances that they knowingly took. After working in maintenance for over 40 years on industrial machinery, I can tell you that if you take enough small chances, a large disaster becomes a certainty.
