Not many Skipjacks left. Ever been to the Deale Island Skipjack races? It's pretty cool but it's also sad to see the condition of some of these boats - folks just don't have enough funding to keep these historic vessels up. Sad, but still a cool thing to attend.I grew up on boats kind of. My grandfather was a fisherman by trade, owned a Skipjack sailboat on the eastern shore of Maryland. I ate 6 days a week nothing but seafood so today I cannot eat seafood. It is hard to smell it, but yeah I love boats. I learned how to sail, and can sail a boat by myself providing it isn't real big. Boats are a lot of work! Are you a regular sailor, Terry?
I'm a regular sailor. I'm more into racing than cruising, though. Crewed big boats most of my time and just started dinghy-ish racing. I love that - very, very technical racing with little room for error.
Boats are a lot of work to own, but to sail, I love that sort of work. I owned for only two years then decided I don't have the time for it. Now, I only crew. Can't beat the fresh air, the sunshine, the spray of the Bay, etc.
