I always had trouble keeping onions to last long enough for casual use. Once cut even with saran wrap and plastic baged the cut portion would wither dry and the onion eventually rot pretty quickly thereafter.
Well by trial and error I found a good solution.
First of all I keep the peel on the onion, I place wax paper over the cut portion wraping the onion in the wax paper before saran wrapping the full onion then placing in a small ziplock while pressing all air out before sealing.
The wax paper has made a huge difference and now the onions don't dry out or rot at the cut section nor spread decay to the rest of the onion nearly as fast. Now my onions last 2-3 times longer this way.
