Didn't the libs laugh at Reagan's "star wars" initiative? Of course the breathless news release is admittedly premature and is most likely designed to take the pressure off Obama's insane foreign policy.

Reagan's Star Wars initiative was (in part) a brilliant move to enervate and hasten the collapse of the Soviet Union. Contrast that with obama's bumbling humiliation over Syria.

Star Wars was a perfect smoke screen cover for a large and widely spread R&D program that we are still seeing advances from to this day.

While the "public image" was lasers in space and caused the Soviets to dump huge amounts of money into more and more powerful ground based lasers, the US went in an entirely different direction.

Specifically kinetic kill weapons ("Silver Bullet anti-tank round", PATRIOT PAC-3, THAAD), GPS, mobile satellite receivers (DirecTV, XMRadio), scrambled spread spectrum communications (modern cell phones), and thousands of other things big and small.

Star Wars was probably the best con game of all history. The Soviets might as well have burned most of the money they spent in their effort to keep up, but the US gained technologies that we all use on a daily basis.
