There's a pretty easy way to figure out which ideology works and which doesn't.

How in the hell is either side meant to show the reality of their methods when the other side attempts to obstruct their progress at every turn? I picture two people trying to race. One grabs the ankle of the other, trips them, attempts to run by and then has their ankle grabbed and is tripped, repeat. The solution is obviously to give states far more autonomy than they currently have. Each state should have the power to fully implement its own ideology to whatever extent it wants. Do that and we will quickly find out what works and what doesn't. Why shouldn't this happen? The United States has more landmass than all of eastern Europe, which is 25ish different countries.Over vast distances like that cultures are bound to be very different, even in a "United" States. It's completely asinine to continually impede the progress of the other and accomplish nothing. Do this and some states will be far more successful than others, perhaps prompting the others to reconsider their own methods.

Yes... well except the left will never want to do this, because they know their ideas will fail and fail again. Therefore they have to force the ideology down the throat of everyone.

So, in an alternate universe, maybe.

because they know their ideas will fail and fail again

Are you sure they know that? If they know their ideas are bullshit then why have those ideas? No, I'm pretty sure most people from the left and right are quite certain that their way will work.

Commitment to an ideology distorts perceptions, perverts analytical skills, and renders its victim subject to shallow, binary thought processes & a troubling lack of intellectual curiosity.

Better to just think for yourself and not worry about obediently pleasing your tribe.

Why does a thief steal?

Because it's profitable for him. Some actually believe the BS too, after years of brainwashing so that all common sense and attachment to reality can be abandoned.

Something needs to change. The constant stalemate, the forever non-progress; it has to end somehow. Do you have any better ideas?

Oh, I wish I did. This has infected our culture now, it's everywhere, and I have no idea what to do about it.

Obviously, it would require popular leaders - political, sports, music, media, anything, everything - to show some real bravery, put down the ego and cross the line. Not just one or two. Some kind of momentum has to be achieved, some kind of escape velocity out of this.

I don't see that we're anywhere near even starting yet.

That's pretty much how the founders envisioned it, other than with some guidelines. Sadly, it is now out of control.
Love your analogy, by the way.

Well with lack of better options I'll stick to my idea for now. It no doubt comes with its own set of challenges, but I truly believe it would be for the better. We need to get our wheels turning.

Wouldn't it be easier to just read history for the past failures of socialism? Only have to as far back as today in Venezuela for an example.

How about this for an answer: Liberals are stupid! They don't know their ideas are bullshit.

You just described "politics".

I do. I think we should divide this country in half right down the middle: conservatives on one side and liberals on the other, and allow each to run their side of the country the way they want.

It's hopeless for unity at this point because both parties are drifting further and further away from each other. There is virtually no middle-ground left anymore, therefore no peace either.

Mom was always right. When me and my siblings couldn't play together in peace, her solution was to separate us, and that stopped the arguing and fighting.

This would cause a civil war. The "liberal" states like CA, NY, etc......you know the places where the most money is made and most taxes paid, would be fine. Deep red states would lose the money those states donate in taxes that keep them afloat. They would then attack the "blue" states to get some of that cash they would need.

I thought the civil war already put this to rest.
