in Africa, a strong majority of 67% of respondents to the Afrobarometer (that's a real thing) survey support democracy and multiparty elections. however, they also have more trust in the president (62%) than in any other political institution, and are typically particularly sceptical about the role played by opposition parties (only trusted by 38%). this is because opposition parties are seen as being divisive and contributing to election-related unrest.

Truns out a lot of people support strong man dictatorships. To an extent even the U.S. has succumb to pro-dictatorship sentiment.

The world is changing and it does not look good. I worry that when the Left can not put their opinion in print or spoken we all are in a deep pit of Dictatorship that will put the power and control into the hands of the rich and powerful. This if it ever happens in the US there will be blood spilled and this is the last thing we want. I should say that I am mostly (surprising) a Libertarian more or less. Never knew this till it took a online test.

Tunisia is likely to enter a critical phase as elected officials will be under pressure as they will be forced to run the municipalities without a clear majority

Not as long as we vote and have three houses of Government, Sparky.

Right . Except the judicial is under constant attack by the president and the legislature is full of cowards who defer to whatever the prez does .

in Belarus, the people entrusted government to a seemingly visionary leader during the post-Soviet power vacuum, only to find that he quickly transformed into a self-interested despot willing to employ the same methods as the Soviet regime from which he was charged with breaking free.
