From the sounds of it, it was the "American" students doing the taunting on Cinco De Mayo.

And do California schools have the money to do that?

As a soldier I had always believed that the greatest threat to our country and our INDIVIDUAL freedoms, came from outsiders such terrorist and other extremist groups; however I have come to realize the greatest threat comes from within by way of our own citizens who either don't understand or don't care truly care about our American values. I saw that. How ridiculous our teaching community is.

Yesterday the high school I was teaching at, which does have pledge daily at the beginning of 2nd period, had a special flag ceremony at the beginning of the day. All branches of the armed services sent represented and they remained at school all day. They went to all social studies classes, and ate with the kids in the cafe.

The students had decorated luminarias surrounding the school, which they paid a buck for, parents had donated the red, white, and blue bags, the sand, and the electric lights for each. All proceeds from sale went to Soldiers Angels.

Today I was in a different high school, during 5th period the principal made an announcement, commenting on how impressed the military representatives and veterans were. She mentioned that the kids probably didn't notice, but some of them had tears in their eyes. She thanked everyone and all the groups that had made the arrangements, seems the assembly lasted about 10 minutes longer than the school day, but everyone stayed in their seats. When she finished, I asked the class I had if the assembly was good? All went, 'Yeah!' 'My parents wished they'd come.'

Not all schools are like that one.

I doubt many soldiers believe they are fighting for the right of school bureaucrats to tell a boy he can't have a U.S. flag on his bike to honor his grandfather.

It's much better for assimilation, for the country, and for the immigrants if they keep their cultural ties, while taking on those of the US too. Nothing wrong with Tacos and kielbasa at the Forth of July, nor any problem with Cinco de Mayo, etc. Keep the old, but celebrate the new, especially when one chooses to come here.

If American kids are indeed considered to be in danger when they fly an American flag, it is proof that we have lost control of our country.
