This is not about what I hope, Lesh, it's an attempt at a sober analysis of what is actually happening. And, as long as Trump's approval rating among Republicans and Republican leaners stands at something like 90%, Republican Senators' calculation won't change - not in sufficient numbers to convict anyway.

You haven't really answered my question. I agree, sending a disapproval notice to the Mob Boss would be a warning for future presidents, and it's certainly warranted. Inviting a homophobic, misogynistic, 19th century goon, like Pence, to squat in the Oval Office is another matter.

I am of a split mind on that. Having Trump hanging around the GOP's neck like a rotting carp in 2020, and exacting punishment for Trump's corruption in the form of electoral obliteration, would be preferable to a possibly "victimized" and therefore invigorated GOP under Pence sailing to victory. The U.S., as I have said before, is a backlash society. Whatever is being inflicted on society from above (from ACA to impeachment / removal) at least initially faces a fierce counter-reaction. That is, I believe, what motivated Pelosi's initial resistance to the growing demands for impeachment.
