BTW: The Tea Party is hammering things at the local level. Just check out Kansas. The moderates have been virtually erased from the state house and state senate. And that isn't the only place.

But back to the federal level. A great many GOPer's still greatly fear being primaried.

But that doesn’t mean they’re free to cut any deals across the aisle; doing so would be risky in a highly polarized political climate that sees compromise as betrayal.

“Members of Congress are risk averse, and if they can avoid getting attention from the bullies, they will,” said Republican consultant John Feehery, a former Capitol Hill staffer.

The Tea Baggeds are holding a gun to their own best friends' heads and threatening to off themselves.
