There is no unified Tea Party. What most people call the Tea Party is a mish-mash of very localized groups with very different agendas, different priorities, and different tactics.

Treating or referring to these individual clubs as if they are a part of a national movement is absurd. There is no common leadership and no common platform.

Fox news invented the myth of the "national" movement in order to foment mud slinging with the hopes that none of the mud would splash back on the GOP.

The "Tea Party" is a media myth.

Oh Great, a fox news bashing thread. Considering its is progressives that benefit most from being able to label all these groups under the "tea party" label, why would Fox news go to such lengths to create the brand?

The TeaTards were once a part of the Libertarians until they and all other far-right groups were co-opted and funded by the likes of the Kochs, and other extremist CEOs.

The Teatards support corporate scum, not the average American.

Not bashing Fox - you seem a bit sensitive. I'm merely stating what happened. Fox promoted Tea Party rallies 24/7 and then inflated the numbers in attendance. Their promotion was very clear. Why? well, that's speculation so your guess is as good as mine. MHO is that they puffed up the Tea Party because it gave them sources to quote for their anti-Obama agenda.

As to who benefits most from pretending this is a national movement, I'll leave that speculation to you. But it's clear that imagining these individual groups as a national brand gives them more clout.

omg

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The fact that these local tea party groups have no common principles and no common leadership is a tremendous weakness.

What's the old saying .... "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."

They covered people gathering for political purposes. Most of the people were supporting the same general concepts. It was like the OWS movement, except neater and more during working hours because Tea Party people usually have jobs. And do you have proof the numbers were inflated? Did they cover every single Tea Party Like event?

You are expecting a bunch of people with libertarian leanings to be this vastly organized group of individuals?

LOL

Sure they do.
The Tea Party movement is an American political movement known for advocating a reduction in the U.S. national debt and federal budget deficit by reducing U.S. government spending and taxes. Having a smaller more manageable Federal Government.
Every single one of these groups agrees on these common principles.

There is no need for a common leadership.
The left is unable to grasp this.

I advocate those principles - but I'm not a tea partier.
