The Tea Party & American History Education

Since tea party folks are by and large constitutionalists, it's kind of a stretch saying they don't know American history. Of course, American history is a broad subject. What parts do you think they don't know or have revised?

What is it you don't like about smaller government, lower taxes and increased personal freedom comrades?

You do know that the US constitution has a good deal of socialism in it? Right? Starting with the US postal service, the navy and the funding of the militia once it has been drawn into an army to defensively fight against insurrection and invasion (of course that notion has been smashed to bits).

I gotta say i think history is woefully undertaught in public schools - and certainly it's all the fault of recent liberal education practices. I have an alarming article here showing that only 22% of incoming college freshmen could name two contributions by President Lincoln!

They are constitutionalists who know little about the constitution other than the second amendment and mixing it up with the Declaration of Independence

Which means they could run circles around your ilk who totally disregard the Constitution altogether.

Like Reagan? Or George W. Bush?

Oh and specific examples:
Iran/Contra
Warrantless wiretaps.

Are those things you'd get rid of? Since you don't like Socialism.

Other than spouting Glenn Beck dogma, show where the Constitution is being violated

First off, how is it a socialist doesn't understand what the hell socialism is. Second, it isn't socialism.

Kinda funny how this idiot assumes that only school is the place to learn history.

Thread fail.

except for the blind haters.

Absolutely, many now learn their history from Fox, Beck and Palin.

I did not know all that about Paul Revere for instance...

At the beginning of 2009, the GOP/Tea Party decided they would make revising history a priority, as well as renaming everybody within the American political spectrum. It’s no revelation that the GOP complicated it’s party identity because of the Bush administration’s abject failure to end on a positive note. The GOP got busy encouraging Republican voters to call themselves “Conservatives”, “Conservative leaning Independents”, “Tea Partiers”, or “Libertarian/Conservatives”...anything but “Republicans” for the time being. GOP strategists and pundits also revised the Democratic identity as “Progressives” and “Liberals”, then went on to portray “ them as Nazis, Communists, Socialists, godless, tyrants, elitists, parasites, and anti-American. The GOP even encourages the incorrect use of the epithet “Democrat Party” whenever possible, instead of calling the DNC by it’s correct name…the “Democratic Party”

Between 2009-2010, Republicans absorbed their new identities as Tea Partiers. By November 2010, the GOP/Tea Party efforts to blame everything on Obama reached critical mass, and though Republicans were still not necessarily proud of George Bush, Republican Tea Partiers fancied themselves as revolutionary thinkers, out to create the faith based Jeffersonian utopia that liberals and progressives kept from happening…instead of the losers from 2008, which is all that Tea Partiers are. That’s great political strategy, but the shocking part is the acceptance by Republican Tea Partiers of the illusion that Bush era Republicans in Washington now…are finally serious about cutting spending this time.
Here, Here! :clap2:

Yea... I'm still reading up on the history of the 57 states. It's taking a while.... I'm embarrassed to admit that I can only name 50 of 'em. :(

Actually, it is no more 'dumb' than the post I responded to. What is good for one side, is good for the other. See how that works? You don't haul his ass into 'dumb' class for his bullshit.... therefore, you are a hypocrite.

H.R. 1891 reduces spending of ineffective programs. The main points of the bill are:

Repeals the authorizations of 42 wasteful education programs, reducing the number of federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act programs by half.
Helps balance the budget, restore fiscal discipline, and promote a more appropriate federal role in education.
Allows taxpayer dollars to be put toward more effective uses, such as funding programs that have a proven track record of putting the needs of students first.

These grants are not for teaching history to students. The grants provide addition training for teachers k-12 to gain an appreciation of American History. The most probably reason the grants are being dropped is that they aren't effective.

No child left behind does not dictate that math and science be taught in place of history. Curriculum decisions lie with the states not federal government.
